Season End Update-Poor snow going on Holidays

This is very early to be calling it a season, but that is the way it is working out. The worse snow season around here in Northwest BC in god knows how long. Off to Mexico this Thursday for two weeks and then will catch the Vancouver/Detroit hockey game on March 20. The low snow level will make the trail/road access after this date real iffy. Not interested in burning up a set of sliders. Now the real reason for this thread. An update on the season with my new 09 D8 163. I have put on 750 trouble free miles on it. Broke engine in for 300 miles on Polaris Blue oil. Have used Shell Advance 100% Synthetic ever since. Always warmed engine to 100* plus before use. Oil consumption seemed high but checked three times and was using between 40-42:1. Right where it is suppose to be. On my 08 D8 the oil consumption was less than half this amount. I firmly believe this was part of the piston scuffing problem and engine failure on that sled. Also, I only used Polaris VES with that machine. As per my previous posts about my current machine I did the usual changes and upgrades. Again it has ran flawlessly all season. Now for the big question??? I am now seriously considering a PCV fuel controller for next year even though everything has gone well so far. Would this be the best insurance I could buy to truly help prevent an engine failure? For you guys that are using a PCV currently, has anybody put one on a machine that had been running well anyways? Thanks to all for you input and help this season everybody. Lets hope for better snow next season.:face-icon-small-hap:face-icon-small-hap:face-icon-small-coo:face-icon-small-coo

Your ecu has the same flash that caused problems for so many others, the way you ride the sled or your clutch setup is just hiding the problems that others experienced. A pcv or any fuel controller with the right fuel map should make the lean midranges alot safer to ride, and the leaned out upper rpms should make it feel stronger.

My 2010 had a very slight hiccup down low when just getting on the throttle but nothing like other guys were experiencing but I put one on anyways just in case. I didnt really notice any difference between the PC compared to stock in power or drivability but then again I didnt ride it for very long without it. However, I installed a A/F gauge about a month ago and just for curiosity I put the fuel map back to stock settings, and Ill tell you, the lean A/F ratio #'s that came up on that gauge absolutely scared me to death! I changed the PC back to the SLP map and everything went back to where it should be. The gauge registers to 17:1 I believe and it maxed out and started to flash blanks across the screen. Truly scary just how lean these sleds really are! Id say buy it

Installed my PCV in December and it runs much smoother with no bogging or overheating. A worthwhile investment for sure.

^^x2 on the Shell Advance oil too.

The mechanic that did my engine update commented that I should keep using the same oil after the rebuild as the original pistons and cylinder walls were in great shape and not dry at all.
