There was a Search and Rescue and Coroner vehicle on Kachess Dam Rd in Easton. My guess would be snowmobile related. Anybody hear what happened?

Ride safe everyone!

I sent a text to a friend New Year's Eve that I used to ride with a few years ago to see about riding with them this weekend. He texted back that he was dealing with the loss of a good friend who just died snowmobiling, don't know any details tough. RIP :rose: Mike Nelson.

According to Cascade Driftskippers...I guess his sled veered off the trail and he hit some trees...he landed in a tree well! RIP Mike!!

It is with a heavy heart that I report the passing of club member, fellow snowmobiler and friend Michael Nelson.

Michael was riding steep terrain yesterday (12.31.2015) in the Thorp Lake area when his snowmobile left the trail over an embankment and hit a clump of trees. Michael was thrown from the machine and landed head first in a tree well. His lone riding partner was unable to revive him and went for help. Fellow club members Bob Seelye and Bill Yager both responded as part of the rescue and have done everything they can to help.
Friends and family have been posting notes on Mike's page: https://www.facebook.com/mike.nelson.1829405, and many take solace in knowing that Mike was doing what he loved.

As we learn of memorial plans, I will pass them along.

Thoughts and prayers to his family. What doesn't make sense though is Sparks Rd at the Kachess Dam Rd turnoff is a long ways from Thorp Lk? We rode Thorp Lk on 12/30 and were the first ones to cut the trail up through the trees to the top where you drop into the lake. So sad to hear this news. I was coming back from the store and passed the Coroner and my heart just sank.

I was the on-duty Coroner and with SAR also.....I wrote the above message to our CDS President after I notified next of kin.....Sad deal. Thanks for passing this on Snobi (Thorp lake was just a close landmark people would know...It was a few miles south of that; 12.3 miles up the trail from where you saw our vehicles parked)
