Scuba diving in Utah

Great Salt Lake!!!!! Oh wait you'd never sink..;) We had old mine pits back home people would scuba in... no thanks I am scared of the Lochness monster. :)

Sea Base is fun, it is past Tooele and they have it stocked with tropical fish. Fead by a hot spring the water is warm year round.

Check out Blue Lake out by Wendover also. Fish Lake is another good place to go from what I hear.

Blue lake and Bonneville Seabase are both good locations.

Quite a bit more support at seabase (showers, tanks and gear rental) and lst time we were visited there was a cute puffy that would follow you around so long as you had romaine lettuce. Personally I'm not a fan of diving at high altitudes, bad things happen pretty quickly if you're not paying attention.

Just don't go to blue lake if any one else is there, which is pretty much never. There is about 2 feet of silt on the bottom and it goes to zero visibility real fast with just a few swimmers. And calling it a lake is a bit of an overstatement, more like a pond. It is warm though.
If you have done any decent ocean diving there really isn't any place in Utah that will satisfy you. Lake Powell is kinda fun, exploring slot canyons is a lot more fun under water.

Done all the above listed sites except Powell, our favorite so far is Sand Hollow near Hurricane. The temp and vis are good in the summer/fall. There is a buoyancy course, a V/W van and airplane sunk. All the diving is inside a swim area so no boats to worry about. Now your certified your going to want to get out and do a good ocean dive ASAP. Then you'll be hooked :face-icon-small-win

Thanks for all the replies. We are trying to go out to the Channel Islands for our scout trip (if the boys raise enough money), I will have to try Blue Lake and Sea base since they are close bye. Maybe later this fall I will try fish lake and sand hollow. Thanks again.

Fish lake is best before july. It gets an algea bloom in it that really cuts down on the visibility after that. Also fish lake is very cold, you will need a 7 mil wetsuit, hood and gloves at a minimum but I suggest a dry suit. It is still fun and you can find some nice fishing gear sometimes.
