Cleaning up my property we bought 2 yrs ago and holy cow, it was worth it
Just took down 2 ton of iron
200 lbs of alum
25 lbs old brass

Walked out with just shy of $400 bucks:).

Local price for prepared (cut up under 3' pcs) runs $180 p/ton, unprepared is $120 p/ton. Good time to clean up the old junk yards and get some $ for sled mods.

The scrap yards around here are stock piling the stuff, they think the price is going to just keep getting better through the summer. Every day on the highway you see several trucks/trailers full of scrap and some of those trucks/trailers probably get left there also, if they make it.

for the last 6 months every morning you see truck after truck filled with scrap heading to the recycling yard. i've heard that they have been lined up over a mile waiting to get in. $325 for a car

I own a machine shop and belive me recycling DOES pay! we have a dumpster from the scrap yard they used to charge us to empty now they pay us 200.00 -300.00 every time they pick it up! And this is just plain steel we seperate the S.S. , aluminum and titanium scrap is nearly like gold to bad its so damn light!

Im an Electrician. I just took about 3000lbs of stripped copper from #3-350 from what ive been collecting over the years...paid off in a big way :) shopping for a new rear skid and buying a winter supply of fuel for my sled

ohhh yah :D

And I still see places out in the country around where I'm from where people have dozens of cars or more stuck out in a shelterbelt or back in a corner of the property...if I was them I would be hauling those suckers out to the scrap yard like crazy.

Yup, Scrap has spawned a new industry, dirtbags are stripping everything they can find, new homes at lockup get all the wiring stripped, expensive homes with copper gutters get robbed

Sometimes you come accross a place in the bush where someone has burned the sheath off of wiring

Ha, I have a buddy that works installing large commercial refrigeration units. They usually get to keep all of the old equipment when doing a retrofit. Between the electrical wire and copper tubing/plumbing, he figures that he averages around an extra $5/hr on just by selling the scrap.

As a side note, I have heard that in some cities, people are stealing manhole lids (around 150 to 250 lbs/each) for scrap. And just think, after you hit an open manhole, you can sell you car for scrap.:D

Im an electrician also, Coppers wires a good bonus. I bought an old auto shop and the place was full of car parts, engines, heads, drivlines, axles, Ton after Ton ive been hauling down

Almost paid for the property

I'm a farmer in central Washington state. Tried for years to get people to come pick up my scrap metal and about 20 other farmers scrap heaps. They're all to lazy to follow through on doing it. I'm talking at least 300 ton in a 20 mile radius. Go figure.

Scrap Metal Spot Prices

I'd say your scrap yard is only paying 50% value.

So be it, I just want this crap out of here to make room for another corral for my horses. I tried for 2 yrs to get scrap dealers/rummagers, to come get it for FREE and no takers. But now at least it pays for the fuel and my new OX/AC torch:).

On the plus side it is a good way to get my kids to get away from the tv and be outside working, to make way for the corral for Their horses.

Prepared here is about $200/ton it was around $300/ton for a short time until the scrap yards started getting so full. I wish I had the time to clean up a few of our old farm yards this summer, I'd be buying a new toy or ride with the cash.
