ive got an 05 king and the front of the pistons keep scoring towards the bottom of piston its not real bad but its the second time on new jugs and pistons. the intake side is fine. just wondering if anyone had any ideas

Scoring on the exhaust side of a piston is usually related to a lean condition. Do you have any mods? Do you monitor your a/f ratio or engine temps? D you run injection or premix?

Need more information.

ive got slp pipe and can boondocker fuelcontroller took a few thousandths of the heads to bump up compression a bit

so when guys are saying they run lean on midrange are they talking fuelys also or just carbed sleds? ya its wierd, the scratches dont go passed the rings or to the bottom of piston. just looking through exhaust ports dont look like it traded metal so, rebuild or not to rebuild that is the question

I remember it being mostly a problem with the earlier carbed ones, and I think they set the factory EFI ones a big rich to avoid this. If you've got a controller and twins though, you could just as easily be getting back into the danger zone.

Have you checked your crank seal on that side?

check piston wash

Check how much piston wash you have on the ol' girl. These motors like w i d e piston wash, you just about cant throw enough gas at this motor WOT to drown it out. These motors never ever ever made any horsepower on the lean side so................so get rich scheme, go fat, only place your health will benefit going extra fat.

I had a 2003 1M 900 also and you do need to be on the rich side they are very lean from the factory and would see many new with scuffed pistons. I would as said above jet the Main jet up a size or two and maybe lower your needle(clip)raising the needle, for more mid range fuel this was a lean spot too.Good Luck:face-icon-small-win
