Okay so back to my biology teacher. This guy is STUPID. I'll go into depth later but I'm going to open this to show you guys what kind of an education I'm getting. It's pretty good to be honest. I just don't connect with this guy. He just can't convey his information to the students. He doesn't even make his own work (assignments, tests, quizzes, presentations, material in general) he finds them online and/or uses another teachers work. Over the last week we have had 2 days of actual class time.
Here is the powerpoint we have gone over. We also have a 19 question assignment that was not made by the maker of the powerpoint.
That's all I have. After the first day my mother got an email that I was using my electronics during class. So today I addressed that I was taking a picture of the slides so that I may study and answer any questions etc. later for a final or assignment. I was still told it's a no no to "copy" school material. That's stupid. I just went to my seat and continued with what I was doing earlier.
It seems that teachers and older people in general don't see and appreciate the value of technology in a class room. Apple is teaming up with publishers to create digital textbooks available for the iPad.
I'll be strait forward and say 40% - 50% of the time I'm actually messing around with the other features of it but I have since then dedicated an iPod to "School Purposes" only. I record a lesson that our teacher gives. Then I can also take any notes on a subject. I have reminders of what work I have to do when I get home and a calculator and dictionary that doesn't require internet connection. 0 Songs. I have 2 audio books. One is to Kill a Mocking bird. And the other is the Cliff-notes for it. 0 videos. 1 picture (background of my sled). That's all that's on there. So if you could limit it to certain types of things don't you think that it would be smart for them to just let technology rule?
I understand there are many issues such as funding and also theft/ damaging equipment. Also the fact that technology becomes out dated in about 6 months. But the good out weighs the bad by A LOT IMO. Heck. the students should be able to use any device as long as it's school appropriate and they sign a waver that they know the risks. Then the school can offer WiFi over the entire campus. The security and control thing is an easy fix. Anything on the school network is monitored remotely from ANY teachers computer or log in. The M86 web-filter is directly hardwired into the servers.
Easy to control and almost limit less possibilities. What do you guys think?
