School bus conversions? Anybody?

Let's see some converted school buses to haul sleds? Has anybody had good luck doing this?

I've seen this done a few times. The people that I know who have done this said it worked well for them but I do know is was used more for short trips. Maybe a few hundred miles at the most. Those old school buses tend to break down too much to trust one on a long trip. Eric

i've seen a couple in person and they are unbelievable.

there were a couple of rows of seats in the front for your buddies and gear. to load sleds up the back panel of the bus folded down and was not steep at all. then on both sides it folded down but the panel was cut at an angle somehow so that it was not a direct 90 degree turn out of the bus. i'm not exactly sure how they made it worked but the guy said it was real strong and had not failed them yet.

i think it'd be awesome. get 3 or 4 of your buddies, pile the sleds and gear in. comfortable seating. everyone split the gas bill. it'd be perfect.

converted bus

theres a crew from vegriville alberta that would show up in valemount with 6 sleds on a converted school bus. 4 on the bottom back and 2 on a deck above the party quarters near the front. that was a 6 hour drive for them and I saw it out there more than once. thing was utlra cool!!!!!!!!!

7-8 years back we would go out to west y from mn on the same dates. every time on our way home for about 3or 4 years this bus would be going out west. it had the back half cut out with four sleds on it and pulling a 4 place trailer. really wierd that we would see it heading out west 3 or 4 years in a row

I have seen this one in Revy a couple times--I will see if I have the pictures of it still.

They had cut off the back body--had a upper deck like a car hauler and a lower deck on the back part of the frame of the bus. It was Sweet.

There is a guy that lives around here that had a school bus just like that. One of my buddy's had a picture at one time, hopefully he'll post it.

Short of hacking a bus apart and proving it can be done, why bother? That's what sled decks and crew cab pickups are for. You could run a sled deck and a 6 place open trailer (less the room for 4 guys) and have a better riding and more comfortable vehicle. Just my .02.

You can get old school buses at auctions for very cheap. I think if you did it right you could get 8 sleds and 8 guys on a converted bus

Yes, maybe so. The only trouble is, nobody in our group has a crew cab, diesel pick up. So we were thinking what if a guy would convert a school bus. I think it would be a fun project!

I have an uncle that picked up a bus in Indiana 3 years ago for pretty cheap. it seems that the state law requires school busses to have no more than 100,000 miles, so they all have alot of life left in them when they get retired from the schools. he converted his to a really cushy family traveler with lazyboy chairs & other plush fixins.

I have a sweet old international that i used to live in, was parked in fernie for 3 years. all spray foamed inside with bunk beds. will sell for 500 bucks. need a second mortgage to fill with fuel though.
