Scary Youtube vid from Revy

I would like to see part 2 of that!

Looks like they were sitting in the runout zone of the first slide working on that guys sled. The the other two guys rip by and must have tripped a dandy.

Getting out of the chopper with metal detectors isn't a good sign.

More details would be great.

Thanks for posting.

is this for real? seems staged...sorta like a PSA for snowmobilers. The S&R vid seamed in pretty well and they didn't seem like they were in too big of a hurry....or geared up. Scary to think about though. First thing going through my head was, "why are these guys all sitting at the bottom of the hill that just slid a little and where guys are still climbing it?"

I've seen this vid before, and more of the story. Not sure if it was on here...but this is probably where the story and video is that I first saw.

Those other guys that climb up are a separate group that came and went on up above the ones sitting there after that incident.

I think the original posting about this is either in this section, or Mtn/Powder....but I think it's here in the Avy section somewhere. It was definitely an interesting story to read. Those guys that went on by and climbed gave no thought whatsoever to the group sitting there, nor to each other with following that closely

I am pretty sure that is the one that happened just before the ferry heading to Nakusp. It claimed the life of a brand new father. They went back in the spring and got the video camera..I THINK (I was in Revy when it happened).....02

your right about the one guy following to closely...regarding the guys climbing up past the group.......should they have stopped and asked the group to move while they climb the hill or should the group have moved because they were in a dangerous spot..i see more fault in the group down below....

The group below were in a bad spot. The other group should NEVER have went past like that though. Stopping and asking would have been the right thing to do. Could they not see that part of the hill had just slid??!! Had they asked and the group refused to move, then telling them they are at their own risk if the hill avy's from them going up might make them want to move. It at least would give them a choice.

I think the ones at the bottom were taking stock in what just happened, and the one kid needed to get his wits back about him. Yes, no question, they should have been in a better spot...I think they were just basically checking the machine over and let the young man get over his shakes. Two wrongs don't make a right.

Whatever the case...there is NO excuse to go blazing up a hill past someone like that. That is how people get killed. And taking that extra time sure could have saved them, as they didn't all at look things over before climbing. Fresh avy with only part of the hill broke loose....BIG RED FLAG!

Only 7% of avy deaths are women, are you saying God is playing favourites???Cool fact I did not know thanks....Terry:wave: I think this ties in with a comment made on another thread about ballsy, and we know men have that one up manship gene installed at conception:face-icon-small-win

it was very bad avy conditions i had come over to help my one buddy get his sled going and new that it was a bad place to be . I hence informed the group of people to get a move on, most of the group listened and moved out of the way, then those 2 idiots proceeded to high mark the only big mountain that hadn't slid. I waited to give the one kid a lift out of the way as his sled was broken . Both me and the one kid got out of the way just in time ,the camera man and one other sledder in our group were totally buried as well as one of the guys who high marked us. We proceeded to use our avalanche gear and dug out and saved the two guys in our group. Unfortunately the guys who were high marking us didn't have tranceivers on other wise the guy would definatly have been saved as he was only 2 feet under , but without having a beacon signal to pinpoint him it took way to long to find him. The other day i flew over turbo hill and counted 6 guys on the hill high marking each other. Anyways a lot of times when a group of sledders come into an area i leave now as i am not into getting high marked or digging out bodies. I also am even more careful when parking and route finding , but when you have a mechanical problem and your sled dies in a bad spot your at the mercy of whoever is around that area. Hopefully some people will see this vid and get a wake up call.

cheers

Amber uses this video in her ast1 course. I'm pretty sure Carol Savage also used it in her presentations at BRP dealers this fall. Horrible situation and when someone in my group is missing a piece of their equipment, the entire group rides safe. I was sorry to hear of the fatality but it was totally avoidable and what i would call a stupid death....nobody had to die that day......our own stupidity caused that.(sledders in general)

Wow! would you mind telling us when, and where this happened? Thanks

Sad to say that even 5 years later and a few have not learned the lesson.:face-icon-small-sad You are smart to leave when this happens. The heartache is not worth it.:brokenheart: This mental attitude of being the top dog is what caused the avy in revy on turbo. One guy climbing while another is stuck, as if you say see I am better than you:face-icon-small-fro:face-icon-small-fro:face-icon-small-fro.( Not the attitude most have, but ones that do cause the grief) OK rant over I feel better now. Thanks for posting the video and post it again at the start of next season as a reminder!!!:wave:

Not about favorites...women just tend to look things over, think it over, and move on without giving it a second thought...or trying to push someone else into climbing. No *measuring* going on. :) Included in that 7% are women whom listened to a man about where it is safe to park, climb, ski, etc...either from not knowing any better...or not speaking up.

Rob, thanks for speaking up on this. Good to hear more of what went on. Very much appreciated!
