Just thought I'd share these running board/ tunnel supports I made for the SBA 144" chassis!
Purpose is to add foot traction, eliminate snow build up and strengthen the tunnel sides and help support heavier tunnel cargo and decrease tunnel damage when towing or just getting rammy !!
Made from .125" 5052 aluminum, cnc laser cut, the 90° bend is done on a brake, while I bend the foot cleats by hand, with some tooling I made!
Install is not much different than any other board insert. These boards require grinding down the stock solid rivets on the tunnel sides. So that the boards laminate tightly against the tunnel.
Remove stock stiffeners
Grind solid rivets flush
Cut out floor boards
Fit new boards
Drill& Rivet bottoms down
Drill& Rivet sides
Drill bumper & outer rail holes
Install new bumper..... ride with confidence!!
I used solid aluminum aircraft rivets on the tunnel sides, for strength and track clearence. and aluminum multi grip rivets on the floor board. A longer rear bumper tube is needed since the tunnel gets widened .250".Approximately 3-4 hr install w/plasma cutter & air riveter.
I was able to get a few miles in, these really beef up the floor boards! Foot traction is much increased over stock but you can still move your feet when you need to. we Only had about 10" of snow, but the cut out area on these is almost 3X what stock boards offer. Weight added to sled is at or just under 7 lbs.
I coated mine black and had a decal made to match the side panel graphics and applied it to the tunnel before installing the boards. Powder coated rivets aswell. Tunnel top is covered with 3m 1080. Rear bumper is at the coaters... dang. Damn lights in my shop make the tunnel graphic look red!
I've got 2 more sets made and are for sale $370 set. + shipping Includes new longer bumper tube. Boot cleats can be bent standard or aggressively. Powder coating is available.
