Satellite / Wireless Internet Question

Just sold mine ,DSL finally came through. W.B. was better than dialup but if rain clouds were in the area forget it. Sad part was that is when I had time to be on line. If you have other options take it!

If the dish is dialed in right you should not lose it in rain storms, unless it is a really bad storm. Your dish must not have been peaked

Sat tv will lose it's signal before WildBue will in a rain storm.
And yes it will be better than dial-up. But it is not for online gaming, to much lag time.

When I first installed it, the speeds were real good. But they over sold in our area and the speed slowed down to the package you payed for.

Also some of the first installs they used the wrong coax and that gave alot of people troubles.

Just installed the system had it for about a week now. Wife works from home (bookeeper accountant) she likes it although is a little slower then DSL its better then the other option NO INTERNET.

Exactly Sir. Works well for me, but like mentioned, sometimes the latency problem is a little maddening. I've got the $50 plan and it seems expensive but $22 for dial up that does work is worse. I haven't another alternative, so all in all it works and thats all I can ask.

I have had Wild Blue for about 6 months and love it. I have had no problem with it except losing service during bad thunderstorms but thats to be expected. I have had no problems on just regular rainy days, as said before I lose Sat TV on rainy days but never have lost the Wild Blue connection. I have the $80 dollar plan and love it. If you do end up getting it make sure and read up on the Fair Access Policy.

I have run Hughes for about 5 years as we have no alternative. It worked well most of the time until about 2 months ago. We spent a day+ on the phone with (non) customer service to find out there was a supposed problems with out outside feed assembly. It took two weeks for a service person to get to our remote location. The outside feed was fine and the problem was the new modem inside that Hughes installed this past summer. It should of been under warranty and now we are getting billed for the service repair. Any time you deal with Hughes you will have a fight on your hands. Their customer service is the bottom of the pit. The equipment is normally okay.

Now because of the problem with Hughes we have added a Wild Blue system to our location. We are running both and can tell no difference on performance at this time. One is equal to the other in performance. Now customer service will be the factor down the road on which system we keep and which one goes away. We will have an 18 month test period as we use the internet for most communications as our cell phone is analog which works part time also. Time will tell which is the better system.....If you have a choice of any thing else beyond basic dial up go for it...

Hey WYO312,

If you move back to town and stop living in the sticks, there are lots of options.
Mark has Wild Blue, give him a call.

Make our reservations yet?

I have DSL now. I just can't stand the phone company and want to dump the home phone. They charge me a $15 or $25 fee just for living out in the sticks as it was refered to earlier. I have the choice of wireless through VCN or Sat. Internet. Just trying to figure out the best option. Not impressed with the equipment and hook up fees though...

Satellite direct is a last alternative. If you have VCN available you are not that far out in the sticks and I would go for it. With the 2 sat services we are paying about $130.00 a month. We have no choice as to other services. That should be the only reason to go to either Hughes, Wild Blue or any other similiar services. They are not fast and service is not what you will expect after having anything beyond regular dial up....Bill

Might look into fractional T1 as well... A lot moar expensive than consumer interwebs, but there's more bandwidth and it's a lot moar reliable.

Also, to help offset the cost, you could set up a wifi network and charge neighbors for the use of it...

i have sprint broadband wireless, and love it. with a good signal strength, it is faster than my cable modem. but thats in southern wis. dont no how well it works in the west.

What's your point

I can't believe they have not run you out of town. You are Redneck even for the sticks. The only guy I have ever seen register for his wedding at an RV dealier.

Ummm, You got married in Glendive MT... That town is so small they have an outdoor bowling alley and thier McDonald's only has one arch...
