Satellite Personal Tracker

I really like using my SPOT. I got one last year and not only is it good incase of emergencies, but tracking your riding areas. :face-icon-small-hap

I got one for Christmas - more weight to the backpack, but worth it in a pinch.

I was looking at it, and was wondering if aggressive riding movement could accidentally push the 911 button...My luck we'd be sitting taking a break with a Snickers bar & the SR chopper would appear overhead...

I was thinking of keeping it in my pack in a ziplock bag with the batteries out, just to be safe from a mis-fire.
But like a gun with no clip, you don't want to be screwing with it in a real emergency.

I ran mine in the tracking mode this weekend. It's supposed to mark your location every 10 minutes. In the front pocket of my jacket, I only got two locations marked over ~4 hours. Anyone have any better luck? Maybe I'll try the top of my pack.

Maybe I could hire you to follow me around in your helicopter, in case I get in trouble? That would make my wife feel better.

Maybe we could ride together and split the chopper cost. My wife bought me one 2 for x mas will try on saturday.

MY wife bought me a spot, last year she got me a ABS pack and a gps. Then she makes me get a 2 million dollar life policy:eek:

I think the chopper would be a blast-- I love them in Revy the kodak courage that shows up when the helli comes over the hill in revy in Amazing

This is exactly the experience I had with mine. That, combined with the fact that there is no positive confirmation that anyone received the message, and I decided I couldn't rely on it. Still...not bad to have.

Got a garmin nuvi GPS, took it with us sunday and set it to track everywhere we went. Dons't have 911 tracker thing but it'l tell ya elavation, which in my opinion is awsome... Last ride I turned it on and put it in a zip-lock bag and road for 5 hours. When we got back to the truck it tells me where ive been (surprisingly the little trail roads are on the map!) how fast I went, milage, coordinates blablabla... But when I get home I can mark all the fun spots and hills and set them to favorites to go there next time... Pretty cool. Unfortinaltey my cell phone is outa service 99% of the time I look at it... What would I do if I was fu**ed?... Hopefully I never have to find out and my riding buddy (dad) will have a better idea... The satellite thing sounds like a good call though...

I would think the ABS pack would be the way to go, but over a $1000...MAN!!!Ouch!

Iridium Sat Phone.... only way to go.

Bingo.....Very expensive, but worth every penny. We have a Global$hit unit for our ODOT crew, and I have yet to get a signal with it. They even gave us a handy chart that shows when the phone WON'T work. (which is most of the time):face-icon-small-dis

Iridium phone or HAM radio.
