Heading up SoapStone tomorrow morning from the Mirror Lake side. I have me +3. Those who ride with me know the drill Same as always. If anybody wants to join PM me and I'll give ya the deets
My brother and I would like to join you. We have ridden soap stone about ten years ago but we are not that familiar with the area. But would like to get with a group that knows the area. I sent you a pm so you could let me know the details.
Thanks to all who joined up with his today. It's always good to ride with excellent riders who are willing to jump in and do whatever is needed. The snow was weird today. I would have sworn it was May the way the snow was reacting and with how warm it was up there today, snow is very dense and the snow pack is extremely deceiving. It feels solid and strong on top. Lots of whoomfing sounds even in the trees. The weak buried layers are failing, even on relatively low angle slopes and in the trees. Everybody please be careful tomorrow and Monday!!!!! We are definitely not out of the woods yet We stayed off open slopes and just played in the trees 90% of the day as evidenced by the amount of pine needles everywhere on my sled lol!!! It made for some sweet tree riding for sure. The best powder is always deep in the trees anyway, ya just have to be willing to go find it
Oh yeah I almost forgot. The top 1/3 of triple hill avalanched to the ground and laid down a pretty substantial debris pile on the upper bench. Sled tracks going up the right side of the top 1/3 and all over the bottom 2/3. If any body knows any details of this slide please report them to the UAC. Thanks
I have to thank Al for showing us around soapstone and making sure we did not get lost. Not sure I feel thankful for the sore muscles today. But all in all it was a good time and the snow was not too bad either.
