Sand tires for the dunes.

Will be going back to st. anthonys this summer because of how much fun it was last summer. I went there with my fairly close to stock 400ex and had 22 inch mudding tires on. I didn't want to buy a set for the first time out. Well it did alright but I am hooked on dune riding so looking for a good all around set of tires. Don't know what tire would suit my little 400 ex. I was told 8 paddles max but they never said 22's or 20's or 18's. I have stock gearing now but will probably go down to 14 and or 13 so I can change there and see what does the best.

anybody like a certain sand tire?

thanks
jon

Sand Stars for your 400 would work sweet lots of pull but not enought to power you out.

my brother has some sand tires and rims that fit a 400ex pm me and ill get you his info to contact him, not sure how much he wants but alot less then new and have barely any rides on them look brand new

I ran 18" Kenda Geckos on my old ATC 200x. It had a steep cam, wiseco piston, ported, and had the exhaust "de-choked," and it turned them over fine! Good tire. The best tire I have seen was the sand tires unlimited Sand Squirts? Can't remember, it was something like that, they were alot of fun, V-paddle so it kept wanting to kick it sideways, that was alot of fun! St. Anthony is a ton of fun!

Sand Stars 8 paddles, 20-11-9

or

Haulers 7 paddle, 20-10-10

The Sand Stars turn easier- they dont push as much. As such they dont hook as hard for the straight line stuff...

It is very hard to beat Sand Stars for a 400ex. You don't want anything bigger than a 20". You do want to gear down at least 2 teeth. Sand is VERY hard to turn tires in so you need the mechanical advantage of gearing. You don't make alot of tire speed so gearing down helps alot. I do St Anthonys 2 and 3 times a year and take the family for at least one trip. They love it.

I have a set of both V's and straits for my Zilla. 20-11-10 (8 paddles) It all bepends on how I want to ride. V's are better for turning. But straits are the s*%t for drags and climbs. I really like my Sand Skate II but that is on my Zilla.

My Bro runs Skat-Trak Edge's on his Raptor and loves them. His Buddy runs Haulers on his Suki 400 and loves them. They are both running 20-10-10 (8 paddles).

I agree, for straight pull and racing you can't beat the straight paddles. I run 24" 10 paddle Skat Trac Extremes on my 700............well 800, Kawi KFX. They work awesome. I've rode on some V paddles and I still like the straight paddle even for general riding. They say the V paddle holds the side hills alot better but I didn't see a big difference myself.

thanks guys I was thinking of the v paddles in the 1 1/8 trim but will the little 400 hold rpm with those? I was down in st. anthony's when you were captain. We had a great time and thats why I think we will go probably 3-4 times a year if we can all get time off at the same time. I hope to gear down a couple of teeth on the front and go with a 20 inch tire. I went down one tooth on the front with 2 inch larger tires and could have used a 13 rather then a 14 (with regular tires)

I was thinking the old 400 could pull 8 paddle 1 1/8?

thanks
