Sand Sled

So i have a group of boys 14-18 at my church that want to do a project and make a snowmobile sand worthy. I know the Dingo was out a couple years ago and a few people have done this before. I have wanted to do this for years. Does anyone really know what it takes to make the sled sand worthy and not blow up. I would also want to be able to put the skis back on it for the winter and ride it in the snow as well.

Small list of things I figure I will need:
First things first i need a sled (maybe have one soon)
Wheels instead of skis
More boggie wheels & take hyfax off
Air intake filter to keep sand out of engine
Radiator and fan

What else am i going to need to do in order to make this work?
Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

do something worth talking about, like a boosted 2 smoke sled engine in a dirt bike frame, a sled on sand is almost as gay as an ATV on my planet...#nukethequads

Add rejetting to the list. Youll need to adjust jetting for the higher temperatures. Maybe look into a fan cooled engine to simplify things with cooling.

I tried to upload a picture of a sled with wheels all the way around, looks like a fan cooled indy. the rear suspention is replaced with a frame and axle. I searched (snowmobile with wheels pictures) on bing and it came up. I actually seen one of these a few years back.

Its been a few years ago when we seen zbroz racing (Zollinger's) testing a sled at St Anthony Dunes. It had wheels instead of skis and a radiator with an electric fan right behind the seat on the tunnel.

Marsh made one a couple years back that was pretty sick. I believe it even competed in some desert racing and did really well. Wanna say I remember it being a rev chassis.

Since 2004, Fastrax has been involved with several builds of what they call "summer sleds". I have rode every one of them over the years and can tell you they are a blast. The latest one was based on a FST turbo. It was a hoot! Kinda hard to side-hill.

I would give Curt a call or email at ftxmotorsports.com

Well thanks for the responses. I just picked up a REV on Friday so it is off to the races i guess. I have some idler wheels on the way and will soon be started on the project.

Oh ya and to the haters, when I am done lets race :face-icon-small-win
