Safe place to test older sled, Boise area?

Excited to be getting back into the sport but have to do so with very limited funding. So this fall I bought what seems to be a decent but old Yamaha Exciter (1987, 5600 miles). Now, I need to go see what I've got and not risk life and limb in the process.

I live in the Boise area. I'm looking for suggestions on where I can take this sled out, perhaps solo, and test it out in the next couple weeks. Perhaps an open area not too far from civilization where I could ride for an hour or two. I need to get some confidence in this sled before riding out into the boondocks, which I WON'T be doing by myself.

I'd appreciate any advice you all have. Thanks a lot.

I groomed the trail at Mores Creek Summit (north of Idaho City) on Tuesday 12/03/13 and there were a few snowmobiles riding in the area that day, just remember to register your snowmachine, our designation is 8A for that area

i would suggest Idaho city and More's creek. I love to do my check rides at Anderson Creek, just not enough snow there yet, but it is close. More's Creek is not much farther and has some nice road riding too. I'm not familiar with much else that's close.
