safe handlebar height

so i had a post on here awhile back about some ten inch rise mountain bars from skinz, well i took it for a ride ya they aint gonna work just not comfortable, so what do you guys think would be a safe amount of riser height for a stock steering post on a 04 switchback 700, 4 in skinz riser bars, or 6 in skinz bars,

10in is ridiculous. Could have warned you about that. You'd have to be stinkin' tall to appreciate that. And before answering your question, I have to ask: What does "safe" mean? Safe to run? Safe investment? Etc. I can see that this is an older sled, and anything taller than factory bar settings in going to be uncomfortable while sitting. Just up to how tall you are, how often you stand vs sit, and how often you ride in places where you need the bars to respond quickly. You will note several posts on here where the owners of new Pro RMKs are actually going lower with their bars for faster reaction time in the trees....

So, depending on what you were after in the first place, the answer to your question changes...

I went with a 6.5" riser. But I also have a boss high top seat to make up for the sitting to standing distance. A 10" riser is ridiculous.

Rough measurement, but I would think that in a sitting position your grips should only be as high as your arm pits. Any higher sitting down you are using the wrong muscles to steer. I'm 6'5" and would like a taller set of bars when standing, but when you get in an off camber situation and the sled pitches downhill even slightly there is too much bar movement down the hill.

Im am using a 6 to 9" Rox Adjustable riser and run it at 8" and bro has a powermad 8" riser no problems. Not 100% satisfied with ROX set as it moves sometimes. i am 6-1 220lbs. no prob.

I'm about 5'9 and I dno I guess riding outwest in standing up most of the time

-Disconnect the bars
-Stand on the sled wearing your riding boots
-Close your eyes and put your hands where you want them (for me that's about 2" above my hip bones)
-Have another person measure the distance from the bottom of the bar to the the top of the post
-Get a riser that closes that gap

Safe handlebar height and being comfortable while standing up, are completely different things. If you want safety then you stay with stock because when you are riding while sitting down and hit a rock, you are going to go sailing over your handlebars. If you have risers, then you are a lot more likely to either break or sprain your wrists. Been there, done that.

When you roll the sled, the risers will put a lot more bending force into the steering column and could snap it off. That would not be safe either.

I'm with the fourth wolf on this. Just an inch or two above your actual hip joint. This will allow you to position your body out over the sled when neede as well prevent the pitch effect others are mentioning.
