sad to say avy deaths went up this year!

In reaserch for a avy saftey speach I am giving I found the totals for this year

33 Total died in the US this year Last year 28 Total

2008-2009: 16 Sledders died in the US

2009-2010: 17 sledders Died in the US

Snowmobilers where still at the top of the charts of most killed.

I wish there was more we could do to save lives!

For as bad as the snow was this last season, I'm glad we didn't lose more than we did here in Utah. Word must have gotten out better and or more riders are checking with the avy center more than in prior years.

I feel there have been great strides made in Avy education among sledders. Hopefully it will continue to increase and the result will be fewer Avy deaths.
