So need a new tranny I new it was coming but it finally arrived, just looking for some input. Anyone deal with twisted tranny? Saw them at the hill climbs a few years back and very well priced. Also suncoast over ats? And what about ppe and what other controllers and such will I need. Truck is a 09 dmax efi dsp5 and all the other goodies..... I guess on the positive note is I can get a new tune and really put down some big HP thanks for any input! Oh and any shops that do great work in north Utah or Colorado closer to south west wyoming the better!!!

i have an 06 dmax and my allison went out at 108000miles.i had it rebuilt but if it happens again im going with ats or do a manual tranny conversion.allisons are not supposed to blow up.i woulda bought a dodge with manual if id known the alli sucks

I lost my stock trans @ 200K with a truck that pulls a lot of trailers it whole life. Replaced with a SunCoast and love it! Solid equipment.

Any ATRA certified shop can put a sc stage IV in. The shop in casper (can't remember their name) did mine. I put 150k on that tranny with a 500rwhp tune and cheetah turbo. I never changed the tune no matter what I was pulling and it never had a hiccup. I sold the truck with 190k on it and still see it ripping around town. I highly recommend Suncoast. 04 Duramax

what does it cost for the suncoast?

That sucks man. Yeah when mine goes out i'll probably go with suncoast parts. Sad thing is, my foot is telling me it's gonna be sooner than later :face-icon-small-sho

They seldom blow up with the stock motor. But when you have EFILive and/or other mods and you up the HP by another 200HP w/o tranny mods you are asking for trouble.

Bummer deal cjfox, but like you said...now you can build it up!

More to the story is I was driving home from Denver cruise control set at 80 no hot Rodin just normal driving. Then check engine light comes on and I read the code with my edge cts and pulls up a p0700 code(from searching this is a standard code for any tranmission issue I think) also flash a service 4 wheel drive on trucks info center. This has happen before but I have got it to clear with the edge or even disconnecting my batteries, but this time I tried both and no luck, so I took it to a buddy's shop who has a computer that can pull the actual codes up. It showed a failed transfer case solenoid (service 4 wheel drive). This made me feel Alot better but then there was still a voltage issue coming from my tranny. It shifts thru all the gears fine and doesn't hang up feels and drives normal. Haven't put my foot into it or turn up the tunes ether. Taking it back on Wednesday for him to tear intro it. Hopefully it's nothing major but if there is issue with the tranny I know it's just going to be one thing after another so I will do the suncoast kit and TC just to avoid a bigger headache in the future. Oh the joys a powers sports!!

The problem isn't the transmission, it's the operator behind the wheel... The Allison 1000 is a learning transmission, which means it's constantly adjusting for power and operator habits. Baby the the truck on a small tune it shifts smoother and slower, beat on it with a larger tune it shifts faster and firmer. Problem is that it takes time to learn, doesn't happen in minutes, it can take hours and days to relearn. That is the problem with shift on the fly tunes, they don't allow the ally enough time to relearn.

I have one tune, it's my race tune. I make small adjustments to it for the winter but that's it.

What are the codes? Did you pull the spin on filter and cut it or drop the pan? How hot are your tunes and are they dsp tunes?

The 6-speed allison can hold alot of power lightly modified... Trango shift kit and a new tripple disk converter. I have seen this combo easily support 500hp+ at the wheels.

Have him check your ignition Voltage in the T.C.M. (trans control module) I see several ignition switch failures not sending the voltage to the trans.

Yep, Once the ignition switch starts drawing a little more power, this kills power to the trans. I've made up a bypass system that no longer shares power with the iginition switch. The ignition switch is fine to leave in place once the bypass relay system is installed.

Often times, Allison 1000's will have electrical problems (common) before they will have internal problems that require an overhaul.

Please have an experienced transmission driveability tech perform and PAY that person or shop for a REAL DIAGNOSIS before you remove your trans.

On a seperate note, T-case issues are becoming more common these days.
