??'s for those who've modified their steering post

I'm looking to reinforce the finicky steering post on my gen II by using an older cat post clamp/bushing. Seem like it'll work well once I get the bracket fab'd up but I'm not sure how far above the original hoop I should mount it. Any suggestion from those of you who have built one of these homemade deals on how far above the old hoop the bushing should set. Also I intend on keeping the old hoop in place but the bushing is falling apart and coming out not supporting the post as it should. Any ideas on what I could use to replace the old one. Something that doesn't require cutting the post and sliding a new bushing on than re-welding. THANK YOU THANK YOU!!

Looks like you just put a sleeve over and welded the braces on...do you grease or anything between the post/sleeve? Seems like it would bind up without any bearing in there.

Looking at options cause I have bent mine a few times already haha

There are a few options you can do. I chose to use the Fabcraft steering post which i would highly recommend. Another option is to sleeve the post to make it stiffer then you can use an edge chassis upper mount or i believe slp makes a edge style mount for the gen 2 steering post. hope this helps

fastrax in puyallup washington make a pyramid steering hoop that raises the bushing about 4 inches. i'm installing one right now it seems like it will work well.

I used an older arctic cat steering post clamp/bushing (7/8" id same as polaris) and made up an L bracket from what I think were older ford receiver hitch mounts. Similar to what others have came up with posted in other threads on this topic. I'll maybe post up some pics in time...
