S.Brady & GUN CONTROL BILL H.R. 45

S. Brady, obama, pelosi, reid, and her anti gun activists are at it
again. Just rec'd an e-mail from Congressman Paul Broun, R, GA,
that brady is trying to sneak in this bill under the radar. Paul is
opposed to this crap that these m**ggots are attempting to get thru
and wanted to alert everyone what is going on. I have heard Nothing
on the news so we better get to the bottom of it. This "NAGR" chit is
something obama hatched up awhile ago but let someone else do his dirty
work. NAGR WILL eventually steel your CONSTITUTIONAL rights of gun ownership if left unchecked

The bizarre thing is the last congressional action was back in February and it has no co-sponsors. It's sitting in the Subcommittee on Crime, Terrorism, and Homeland Security. But with the "hate crimes" legislation, they stuck it in the defense bill and it passed in the House in the last week or so. Does Broun know what bill they're trying to sneak it in? I'll look up who is on that subcommittee. I think it has to go to a full committee after that and then to be voted on in the House, then it goes to the Senate.

The McDonald case that SCOTUS just agreed to hear is something to watch too. Because they decided favorably on Heller, if McD can win, that'd be an awesome victory. Olofson lost his trial, lost the appeal and SCOTUS decided not to hear it, which is mind-blowing given the circumstances.

Our 2A rights we have to fight for above ANYthing else!

Can't believe these morons are on this subcommittee.

Edit: I left a message for Louie Gohmert's office and asked how to be notified where this bill is going and if it's going to be snuck into a another bill and the guy said he would find out more and get back to me. I'm not holding my breath, but I have his name and # ;-)

There is a hoax about SB2099 that includes HR45. SB2099 does not exist. It's an old bill. That part is a hoax.

But HR45 Blair-Holt is a current bill, as you can see above. I called the ranking member of the committee it's sitting in and his staffer said if it is snuck in like Sarah Brady wants it to be like they did with hate crimes in the defense bill, he thinks it will appear to just be sitting there as it is now on Thomas.Gov (library of congress).

Searcher, did you get an email from Broun, is he your own rep? Or did you get an email from someone saying that? I can't find anything on Broun's site that verifies this.

Point is, I'm getting a lot of "official" emails about gun control issues from organizations all of the sudden and it sounds like BO may be gearing up for that, although it also could be a distraction from what's really going on. They'll try to sneak it in some way, but I was reassured by another GOP member of the same committee that if the subcomm tries to sneak anything, he should know about and would alert his constituents.

Partial article from Gun Owners of America:

"Another way Obama can use the “common sense gun laws” approach to cripple the Second Amendment is to allow his understudies, like Holder, Emmanuel, or any other Democrat, to do his dirty work. This way, he can continue to claim support for the Constitution while simultaneously waging war against it via his surrogates. The president is actually using this approach as I type. On January 14, Illinois Congressman Bobby Rush introduced H.R. 45, known as the “Blair Holt’s Firearm Licensing and Record of Sale Act of 2009.” Should this act pass, it “will make it illegal to possess … any firearm that takes an ammunition clip, without a [federal gun-owner's] license.” According to WorldNetDaily.com’s Drew Zahn, H.R. 45 would also order Attorney General Holder, “to establish a database of every handgun sale, transfer, and owner’s address in America.”

Have you noticed that Obama’s “common sense gun laws” all seem to end in the same way — with the registration of guns and gun owners, as well as an increased number of steps law-abiding citizens must go through to purchase a firearm? It’s just the same old gun-grabbing song and dance, which is why Zahn points out that, “H.R. 45 is a resurfacing of 2007’s H.R. 2666, which contained much of the same language and was co-sponsored by 15 other representatives and Barack Obama’s current chief of staff, Rahm Emmanuel.”

As Bill Clinton’s deputy attorney general in 1999, Holder described the outlawing of private gun sales as “common sense.” But we recognized the threat, cried foul, and persuaded Congress to ignore Holder’s pleas. Now that Holder, Obama, and Emmanuel are working in unison today, can we do any less?

There is nothing commonsensical about Obama’s “common sense gun laws” approach. At best, it is a smoke and mirrors ploy to make it harder to purchase firearms. At worst, it’s an outright ending of the Second Amendment agenda. We cannot afford to sit idly by to discover which is the case."

Good news. I just got off the phone with NRA-ILA. I earlier spoke with Paul Broun's office. Here's what I found out.

From Broun's Office: They don't have anything on the HR45 legislation on Broun's Congressional site, but the staffer said Broun is a member of a 2A (2nd amend.) group on the Hill and very interested in this stuff and he'd be watching HR45. He thinks it's possible another group sent out the email using Broun's name and when I said "use his name legitimately, right?" he didn't deny it, so not sure there.

From NRA-ILA: My concern was the method with which bills can be made into amendments and stuck into unrelated bills as we had with the "hate crimes" bill sneaked into the defense bill. The NRA guy said they have an office of federal lobbyists for NRA who comb through legislation and watch stuff like this and that this bill would not be able to get through the subcommittee without them knowing about it.

NAGR: I checked into NAGR and also asked NRA about it. We went to the site together. NAGR is a pro-gun, pro-2A rights organization that has nothing to do with Obama. Exec Director Dudley Brown is a good guy. They have a poor opinion of AG Holder.
