So i picked up an 03 RX-1 yesterday that had snagged a stump and cracked the bulkhead. the guy had taken a bunch of stuff off of it when he was inspecting damage. I put everything i could back on to make it run, all besides the airbox right now.

It starts right up with a tap on the key, the problem im having is that it just sits at 3000rpm and bounces there and sounds really weird, if i hit the gas the black slides inside the carb wont open, it just loades the thing up and starts backfiring. Im curious why the thing wont open the slides as it gets fuel and everything. any thoughts?
 
TORS will do that. Throttle overide switch...if every thing is okay at the throttle, follow the wires back down the steering post into the wiring harness. There should be two connectors...one for each wire, make sure they are connected to the wires coming from the throttle overide switch.
If you are going to run a riser bar and want to bypass TORS you can connect the two wires together at the harness. But make sure you put a tether switch on, for safety. (oh...I just read your signature...you're not actually gonna ride this sled are you? skip the tether switch comment.....kids out there...if you're reading this make sure you always think safety first :). )

If it's not TORS, there was a recall on the 2003's due to a faulty relay. The relay is somewhere by the carbs, and will cause the exact same problem.

fixed everything, i unhooked tors and it idled at 6k, adjusted throttle cable down, then realized carbs were way out of sync.

got it ally synced and idle adjusted to about 1600. she sounds amazing!! 4 strokes sound awsome, now i want to hear it with very little exhaust and the turbo in it!

as far as teather, oh yeah, gonna be wearing one as this thing is likely to come out from underneath me! the whole rx-1 setup including the electrical is going in the doo chassis, so i will keep the tors in it as its a pretty good feature in my mind!
