RV Pulling Sleds?

Hey guys just wanted to see if there is any input out there on the subject. I live in Wyoming and as all you ND people are getting rich and you MN people seem to live here in the winter I have found it harder and harder to find lodgings without 2 weeks notice. That being said my friends and I are considering buying a cheapish RV older big block gasser. We could all ride together and would always have a place to stay. I know it will not be the fastest ride but we pull an enclosed steel 29ft trailer. Do you think this is a good idea or just my hill billy mind being ignorant? Thanks

I don't know how 'cheapish' you're really thinking, but a lot of folks pull an enclosed with RVs and it seems to work fine. You'll usually see a few at all the races. Like you said it probably won't get you there the fastest or most efficiently, but it will give you options as far as lodging.

My buddies have kicked around the idea of converting a school bus into an rv and using that. Most are diesel so they should be a little better on fuel. You can actually get a newish bus for like $4k.

Alot of gas motorhomes have a tow rating of 3500lbs. The problem isnt so much, power or brakes, it the crappy frame at the rear of the motorhome. Class C (bunk over cab) MHs generally have a cheap weak frame rail extension on the back of the factory frame. Class A (bus style) gassers sometimes have up to 5000lbs rating. Alot of Diesel pusher Class A have up to a 10K lbs rating.

Just a FYI, I see lots of RVs that tow well beyond the ratings though.

I have a large Class A gasser, v-10 ford engine. 5-9 mpg on the flats. I wouldnt tow more than prolly 4k with it.

if you want to save some weight you might go to an open trailer, we used to pull an open 4 place up the hill almost every weekend with a 30 foot class A with a 454. just make sure whatever you buy is fuel injected...
