Rutherford-jerry can ridge

Has anyone been up there lately? hows the snowpack doing? i lost a sled up there (im an idiot....) back at the end of February. Just wondering if the snow has started melting up there yet, and when the crevasse normally start opening up?
any info would be great.

thanks

You lost a sled......come on now tell us whatn happened.

hahha well i guess so
i was goin ski sledding up there with my brother and i, and a we had just done a little warm up lap off the jerry can ridge. So we started back up sledding again, down the ridge towards the ice caves area. but as we were getting to the bottom of the hill near the caves, flames started coming out of the the right hand side, witch ended up burning through the pull cord, oil tank, and breaks and all the **** around there. i foolishly put it out, when i should have let it go (more insurance money....). but anyways we had to leave it there because there was only one other sled and it was later in the day. So 4 people, one sled, you do the math...

the next day we went to go get it, but only got it up the hill to jerry can ridge by the end of the day. So i started contacting my insurance company to see what they could do to help with a rescue. The lady i talked to didnt know my policy and lied to me, telling me there was nothing they could do, even though it says in my policy that there is $500 for a rescue (both my fault and hers...).

so the weather was **** for next like month, so we couldnt organize some friends to help us get it out. So the end of march comes around, better weather, We finally got some friends sleds organized to go recover the sled. By then we knew it was totally buried, so we went up with metal detectors and probes to dig it out. turns out metal detectors are pieces of **** in the snow and totally useless. So my brother and i probe around for an entire day with no luck....

fast forward to now and insurance is covering 4500 of the 5000 claimed value. But they are also offering 500 for the salvage, but i could negotiate it down. The problem is there is no point in buying back the wrecked sled unless i know for sure that i would be able to go up there and get it, or organize a heli to get it for me.

anyone been up there lately? or know when the crevasses opening?
im an idiot. thanks.... haha
oh sorry for bad grammer. i dont care about it at all... haha

If I were you I would get up there as soon as you can! Not due to the crevasses opening but due to the creeks opening up just past the cabin.
As of last week people were unloading at 18KM or about 1 KM before the trees. The creeks are open but passable on the right.

It sounds like your sled is close to Ryan Lake and there only a few crevasses that open up from the gas drop to where your sled is but are easily avoidable.

As mentioned, once the creeks open you will not be able to access the cap through Rutherford by sled. The only way in will be through Brandywine and that would be impossible to tow a sled back that direction due to the steep hills.

I am going to guess that if you do not get up there in the next week then you will miss your window and they only way to get it out will be to call Blackcomb helicopters. If you have your GPS coordinates it should only take less than 20 minutes round trip for them to pick it up so it should only cost you about $600 to $700 to chopper it out of there.

Good luck!
