RUNNING OUT OF GAS GOING DOWNHILL

I have a 2004 800 Rev Summit and on several occasions I have run out of gas (or so it seems) going down a long steep hill. If I can coast to the bottom and get flattened out the sled will start up again. From what I can figure, when I run out of gas it is toward the end of the day and I still have about 3-4 gallons left in the tank. All I can figure is that the pick up tube is toward the back of the tank and when going downhill all of the gas flows to the front and leaves the pickup tube high and dry. Is there a way to remedy this? Is there a way to install a second pickup tube? Is it just me or do other riders have the same problem?
Thanks in advance.

Prone to flooding downhill

Those sleds were prone to flooding on steep downhills. The longer the hill the worse it is. I know I had an 03 800 Summit that had this problem. If I stopped my sled heading down hill it would always flood. I always thought it was a design problem with the angle of the carburetors. I tried lowering the float level, but that did'nt seem to help much. If you try to throttle it a little as you decend a hill it helps to clean out the extra fuel.

The fuel pickup is towards the rear 2/3 of the tank. The sdi models had a better fuel pickup in the tank. I tried putting a couple fuel pickups like this http://apeusa.com/html/pickups.html
in my tank but I had to cut a hole and could never get it to seal back up. I found a used RT 1000 tank and put it on. Problem solved.

Could be a variety of things, needle and seat, dpm, check valve.
I had the same problem, cleaned up the dpm solenoid, didn't have the issue this season but i only got to ride 4 times.

Had the same issue on many sleds, drill out the blue check valve above your secondary clutch. Helped alot on the downhill problems, used to have to dig a flat area to get started, maybe vapor locked. Also had a problem with steep climbs with low fuel, believed the fuel line/ filter was floating to the top and picking up air. To my knowledge you cant add another pick-up b/c one will pull air. I fished with bailling wire the tube out of the tank and added a stainless steel nut at the filter to keep it planted on the bottom of the tank and the uphill fuel loss stopped.

running out downhill

Mine did the same thing going downhill when I only had about 3 or 4 gallons in it. I would have to get to a level spot and pull on it a bunch then it would start and run good as long as I wasn't going down hill. I took tank off and found out that the pick up was in the back 2/3 of the tank like FACK said so when going downhill with low fuel it would go to the front of the tank. I cut the pick-up tube so it was at about 1/3 back and now it starts running out when it's low and going up hill, which is a lot better because you can turn out as soon as you feel it and still keep it running and then add fuel on the level.
