Running Low

What is the best method to transfer gas from one machine to another when running low on gas in the backcountry. Best tools and equipment to make a smooth and easy transfer?

thanks

Well simple solutions are best. I turned my sled on its side and dumped the fuel into a 6" x 8" rectangle plastic tupperware container that I had my lunch in. now just dump in other sled. Tip: wash it before using it for your sandwiches again.

I carry a 6' length of 1/2" clear plastic tubing from the local hardware store. I bought a coupler to put in one end. When I am done with it, I roll it up and stick the other end on the coupler as well. That way, no water or junk can possibly get in the tube. I don't have a foot valve but with the clear tube you can see the gas coming so you can quit siphoning before you get a mouthful of gas!

It worked great last year when my sister got to the trailhead with two empty sleds. Of course we didn't figure that out until about ten miles from the truck! She had filled the sleds the night before and during the night someone stole all her gas!

I carry some coiled up 1/4 clear tubing. figure if in a pinch slow is better than nothing. You can sometimes put line in tank, then put your mouth/hand over tank opening to seal it best you can, then blow real hard and the air pressure in the tank will force fuel out the hose and once it is started you're good to go.
