Run turbo coolant or not??

Im sure there has already been a thread about this but couldn't find one. I am running a garrett 2860 on my nytro and have heard of guys just plugging the coolant ports and running oil only through it. Any experience or thoughts on this? Reason being my setup is super tight for space and would rather save the headache.

I have one sled that ran only oil. Just cooked the turbo bearing. Not sure if coolant would have helped but seriously doubt it would have hurt.

I have two other turbos with coolant and no problems with them-YET?

to my knowledge you need to run coolant, the bearings are fit that way and clearances.... so basically its made to rely on coolant for cooling..... and longevity, otherwise you can get ones that dont require coolant for cooling and im pretty sure their bearing clearances and all that fun stuff is greater

but all you need to run is like a little 1/4" coolant hose or a bit bigger (cant remember what size i use 5/16"?) but its small, flexible and easy to put in, you just need somewhere to tap into of course

Thats weird because both push, mpi, and MCX dont run coolant thru there turbos and there journal bearings.

I'm thinking something else happened causing your bearings to "cook"

on a journal, dont worry terribly about it, you can run without. on garrett ball bearing, its a good idea. the exhaust bearings are spaced by a plastic(yes plastic) piece get it to hot, it fails, balls smash into each other, go spend $550 on a new center section.

I ran a rear mount garrett for years with no coolant and no problems. I'd say rear mount=no coolant needed, front mount=hot and needs coolant.
