rt is streaking the snow

have a 05 rt 1000 had the 07 mid mapping didnt have good results so did the high alt better yet but now im streaking the snow every where i go and im runnin lil rich how could i fix this?

Go back to the mid altitude and install a T-stat, check/change your plugs.

Is it really doing it all the time or just when you take off or hard pulls. If your streaking your not running a little rich your running alot rich. What kind of RPM's are you pulling at WOT or climbing.

Install an 08 XP thermostat. this will raise coolant temps enough so that ECM doesn't command so much fuel. (the lower the coolant temp, the more fuel is injected on an EFI) A coolant temp gauge will show ungodly low coolant temps when in the deep.

Clean Rave's and verify correct adjustment, check for binding cables and swollen gears causing the valves to bind and not fully open. This is the number 1 reason for the infamous black streaks. You can always tell where the RT's are/have been.

Verify correct oil pump adjustment.

The RT loves a boondocker box to lean out the top end and fatten up the mid.

im not streaking to bad just leaves a mark when i idle lil bit and take off or climbing and everyone said i amd running it to high for the mid alt mappin and i needed to run the high map which did make it run smoother and it ran real good beofre i started playing with the mapping

8200 is pretty good in a hard climb, maybe even high for this motor.

It sounds like the thermostat could help you. My sled and all the other sleds I ride with will leave a mark if they idle for a second and you stab it to take off from a dead idle.

What altitude are you riding at? Most seem to prefer the Mid mapping even up above 10,000. My sled is still running the 2005 mid map and runs great even at 10,000 but I have not had it above that.

i ride the snowies and togatee pass there like 9000 to 11000 maybe lil higher ya its not way bad but my sled wasnt doing this before i tried to do all these mappinigs it ran great but everyone kept tellin me do this mid alt map and now i have to keep messing with everything to try to get it back to were it was shoulda listen to the good ole saying if it isnt broke dont fix it was just tryin to get lil more power but i guy told me he was steaking the did timber sled intake and it fixed it but im not seein how that would is he right?

Fixed it for ya!

Are you running pods? If you removed your air box were did you end up mounting your air temp sensor? I have pods and my sled ran funny last trip out and I found my air temp sensor had fallen down onto the cylinder... I had just tye wraped it up to the chassis and it fell out of the tye wrap.

What other mods are you running?

no im not runnin pods im still with stock intake but was thinking bout putting timbersled intake on as far as mods go i bought the sled in november and the guy i got it from had put domes and had a port and polish job dont to it and a clutch and all i have done is boss seat and simmons but would that intake help me?

I don't think the intake would help you current issue, however it will prevent you from sucking belt dust in the motor and the bottom end blowing on you. I my self would not waste my money on the timbersled setup, you can simply aquire the parts needed and install them for around 1/4 the cost. There is nothing fancy about there kit.

I wonder if your just not tuned to run with those top end mods... you know maybe you do need more air, in the mean time until you decide what to run for an intake, open up the stock air box on the side panel and remove the baffle from the airbox... seems there might even be two in there. You take it off the panel then there are snap deals you press into get it opened up... when you put it back together don't forget to plug the pressure sensor back in. It will allow more air in and you know if your on the right track.

I'm also in the mind set that if they did much port work and it's running domes your going to need a fuel controler down the road.

And like dave said check your raves.

k thanks for the info ill try that and see if it does anything will it hurt it to run it like that tho? i wanna go ride monday but not at the expense of possiblly blowin a motor
