RT 1000 in a ZX chassis

That seems like all it has going for it. Sorry about the non informative post but to the top right?!

Man I hate what I have become. A lurker with nothing positive to add...sorry guys--I need some powder. Put that SOB in there. Enjoy it. The ZX is like riding a couch on Sunday. Almost winter!!!

yeah, there are so many wires on the 1000, and with all that electrical, you would be better off spending your money and putting in a bigbore, the 860 makes pretty close to the 1000 HP, with WAY less work, or get a cat 900 and put that in there, carb = easy, and there are tons of cheap bigbores for the cats.

FYI- i own an RT 1000 and theres a LOT of wiring that would have to be done, not to mention to low and high pressure fuel pumps, meaning change of fuel tank, i vote not at all worth it.

by the time you mount the 1000 and carb convert it... it aint that easy, cuz now you have to design ignition system, or find something like it and hope it works, no thanks!!!

that would be why my vote went to CAT 900, even the EFI ones are SO much less complex than the SDI systems.

Motley, you havent seen under the hood, or even the console, i swear the thing has like 5 different ECU's

I forgot, those effing SDI systems, yeah I looked under yours after you first got it. Ok, who was it that was making a 1000 BB for the 800 series III motors? Old thread, that might be the hot ticket! Or a triple, can't go wrong. The only problem with a Cat twin is finding a motor plate, I know they build one for a triple, but not sure about the Cat. How about a turbo 583/670? Just a small turbo, not stupid boost, be a real reliable 200-250 hp!

I've got to stop day dreaming about all that underhood space, I love the old ZX sleds!

This post is for a buddy that put a lot of money into a ZX and I told him he would be better off with a 900 cat engine. Not only sdi and wiring but look at how its mounted in the bulk head of an RT and then look at a ZX bulk head....oh I am getting a head ache.

900 cat motors were a great motor! If he wants a thousand, the kitty cat guys were talking about boring those cylinders to thousands, and someone was making cylinder spacers so you could run factory M1000 pistons. The wristpin location was slid down on the M sleds, so to match your port-timing, you need the spacers. That would probably be the cheapest way to get to a 1000, but he should do a port job to help it breath the extra displacement!

I ride with a guy that has one of those big bores ( 975 ) and they work really well. That in a ZX would be a lot of fun.

A cat 900 motor would be your best bet. PM PSI1200 on here. He makes motor plates to put just about any motor into any chassis. Bety he has put a cat 900 into a zx before.

yeah, the motor plate would be a none issue compared to mountin a freakin RT in there, the motor is not wroth the hassle, cat 975 would be the ticket.
