RT 1000 Crank ?

I have an 05 rt 1000, motor is out of the sled, top end is out of it, no pistons hung from the rods, and the waterpump and oil pump are removed, when i do i top end i like to check every bearing i can. When you turn the crank back and forth you can hear it make a clank kind of noise and and feel a little drag. I have never seen a 1,000 crank out of the case but after looking at the fishe i see it has a counter weight system with what look to be gears, could the noise im hearing be slack in the gears, is that normal for an rt crank, or do i have a crank bearing out. Any input on someone who has worked one these would be great. thanks Bill

Maybe. You're right, they do have counterweights, although I've never seen them loose enough to cause a noise. The RT's were notorious for cranks, I know it's tough, but probably wouldn't be a bad idea to just split the cases and have it checked. Also, when it goes back together, do yourself a favor and run Pods, ones that are more like an airfilter, one of the main issues was the crank grease getting nasty from contaminates in the airstream, because of no fuel to wash it away in the bottom end, it built up and cause issues.

is timing the counterwights hard, required any special tooling, ive done plenty of the 800's but those cases are pretty straight forward. thanks for the advise on the pods, where do you put your air pressure sensor then running pods, do you have to buy the 300 timbersled kit or is there an easy solution guys have been using?

k&n's are cheap insurance

k&n part # rd-0700. the prefilter for it is ##-0500 (i cant remember the letters but check the website for the filter and it has the corresponding prefilter)
i used this setup in my 1000 with the stock box. 70 bucks for everything

Just hang the sensors down there near the pods, should be good to go, might build a little airbox to shield it from hot engine air, but it's up to you! Either K&N's or Uni makes a nice pod too. And timing the counterweights isn't that bad, you just line up corresponding dots on the gears, pretty simple, although an extra set of hands will make it a LOT easier!

appreciate the advice fellas. went ahead and split the case today, do you have to buy the $50 tube of loctight to seal the cases or have you guys been using something else. Same question with the $140 tube of isoflex greese Thanks again

Question since we are on this subject , does the heat off the engine possibly cause the sled to run leaner as it is adjusting for that heat difference or does the sensor adjust so as it runs the same like running in the spring time, I am thinking the sensor I am talking about is in the inner airbox

Well if you hang the sensor there by the pods, then it is reading actual intake temps, and should adjust accordingly.

About the cases ZX, I have never had any issues with just running a normal gasket maker, those cases are so close that really all it needs is the film that an RTV will leave behind. On the isoflex.......umm, I know guys who have just run a very high end grease and haven't had issues, but I went ahead and snagged isoflex for my 800. I got it for like 45$ a tube, and you only use a bit of the tube, although the 1000's did take a bit more because of the counterbalances.
