Rope guide for recoil starter

I am replacing melted pieces on my REV that I bought used a couple years ago. When I took off the rope guide for the pull start, I had the big black plastic part and then there was a small metal tube with a notch in it and a spring looking thing that is about a foot long that the rope goes through. I can't figure out how these things fit back together. Anybody know?

The spring runs outside the metal cylinder when its large and as it tapers down it goes through the slot in the metal and goes through the inside.
