SALT LAKE CITY — Republican presidential hopeful Mitt Romney took a detour from the campaign trail Saturday to be at the funeral of his spiritual leader, the prophet of the Mormon Church.
With just days to go until 21 states divvy up Republican delegates in Super Tuesday contest that appears John McCain's to lose, Romney was to pause with hundreds of thousands of his fellow Mormons to say good-bye to Gordon Hinckley, 97, president of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS). The popular church leader who shepherded the Mormon Church through a massive worldwide expansion died Sunday.

Although Hinckley's funeral was to be broadcast in 69 languages to more than 6,000 LDS sites around the world, it wasn't clear whether non-Mormon voters preoccupied with Sunday's Super Bowl between the New England Patriots and the New York Giants would take notice.

For Mormons, though, the passing of the longtime Mormon leader has been a major event. Thousands of faithful waited for hours in the mountain chill to view Hinckley's body in Temple Square's Hall of the Prophets. Flags were flown at half staff. Mourners streamed into the 21,000-seat Mormon Conference Center as the famed Mormon Tabernacle Choir sang hymns, accompanied by the facility's massive, 7,708-pipe organ.

Got to wait till the Millennium!

When Will the Resurrection Occur?: Although every person will receive a resurrected body, not all will receive this gift at the same time. Jesus Christ was the first to break the bands of death. At the time of His resurrection, all the righteous dead who had lived from the day of Adam were also resurrected. To those who lived before the resurrection of Christ, this was known as the first resurrection. (See Matthew 27:52-53)

However, for all those who lived after Christ's resurrection until the time of his Second Coming, the first resurrection is yet to happen. The four times appointed for the resurrection are as follows:
Morning of the First Resurrection: All those who lived righteously and are destined to receive a full inheritance in the kingdom of God, will be resurrected at the time of Christ's second coming. They shall be caught up to meet the Lord at this time and will descend with him to reign during the millennial era. (See D&C 88:97-98)

Afternoon of the First Resurrection: All those who lived, are Christ's, but are not worthy to receive a full inheritance in God's kingdom. They will receive a portion of Christ's glory but not a fullness. This resurrection will happen after Christ has ushered in the millennium. (See D&C 88:99)
Second Resurrection: All those who were wicked in this life and who have suffered the wrath of God while in spirit prison, will come forth in this resurrection which will not happen until the end of the millennium. (See D&C 88:100-101)

Resurrection of Damnation: The last to be resurrected are the sons of perdition who, in this life, gained a perfect knowledge of the divinity of Christ through the Holy Ghost but then chose Satan and came out in open rebellion against Christ. They will be cast out with the devil and his angels and receive no portion of Christ's glory. (See Hell in Three Kingdoms of Glory and D&C 88:102)
Death During the Millennium: Those who live and die during Christ's millennial reign will not suffer death but will be changed in the "twinkling of an eye".

"Wherefore, children shall grow up until they become old; old men shall die; but they shall not sleep in the dust, but they shall be changed in the twinkling of an eye" (D&C 63:51.)
Resurrection of Earth and Beasts: Christ's redemption is infinite and extends beyond the salvation of man. The earth, as well as all life found upon the earth, will also come forth in the resurrection. (See Pet Loss to learn about the resurrection of pets.)
"And the end shall come, and the heaven and the earth shall be consumed and pass away, and there shall be a new heaven and a new earth.

"For all old things shall pass away, and all things shall become new, even the heaven and the earth, and all the fulness thereof, both men and beasts, the fowls of the air, and the fishes of the sea;

"And not one hair, neither mote, shall be lost, for it is the workmanship of mine hand" (D&C 29:23-25)

H2SNOW just shut up, no wonder these threads don't last and frankly how much do you pay them to let you stay? I'm not mormon, but that doesn't mean I have to be an azz wipe to them. If you think you have to be your not a real christian or you just don't understand what that means.

Back to the topic, flying the nations flags at half mast? Wow there is some real seperation of church and state. I don't see why romney is making his religion a big deal you would think he he would distance himself from it.
Unless he can win just from mormon votes alone, and if there were an order going out saying that every mormon should he will win right?

H2 x2 what Aug and Kevco said. Why would you want to even poke fun at some one that died? Classy, looks like you win the Douche bag of the weekend award.

never thought of it that way at all silly me ...next

the way everybody makes jokes of stuff it is no wonder that I thought it to be a gag from the beginning ....sorry to hurt anyones feelings thought it was a joke ..
