Rode Vail Pass today 11-20-10

Fun day riding at Vail pass here are some pictures. As you can see the snow wasnt perfect yet a few stumps and rocks to watch for but good snow fall for this time of year. Trail hasnt been groomed yet and the freaks of natuer with sticks under the feet crowded the parking area.

If your going to be staying local for the holiday, your more than welcome to eat holiday chow at my abode; If you dare enter a Marines home! You'll have to entertain the grand kids though!

Hopefully the snow coming this week will get rid of some of the "land-mines". By the way, where did you get that Army decal? If they have a U.S. Marine one, can you imagine how much better that would look on my sled:fencing:

semper fi....dont you just love how they still have to put the carrying handle on the m16 for the army guys....

You two got jokes huh? Oh and for your info the only ones deployed with handles on there M4 are Marines.

Chaos thanks for the invite it sounds good but im flying home to spend the holiday with my wife and kid but thanks again for the invite I really apreciate it. As for the Army on my sled its full decal custom kit for the sled. My buddy does them his website is www.sledskin.com but if you wanna call and talk him directly call me and I give you his number. He has some cool looking military wraps he hasnt done yet that are cool and original.

Oh and if you wanna go ride next weekend hit me up im in love with the Colorado snow.

to a marching cadence....you got me blowing and goin now.....

"army dogs dont go to war.....thats what marines are for...."

LMAO, its all good, thanks for serving and happy belated veterans day.

I was up with two others yesterday and I think I saw you guys. Where you riding up on Ptarmigan? We found some good stuff in the trees.

Its looking better this year than it did almost all last year! Gonna be a good winter. Thanks for the pics man.

I think so. Is that the way to Red cliff? I was a little confused about where we were but I do know when we got up higher and I was able to dive off the trail the powder was definatly different then what I am used to in Idaho. Where you located?

If you want to go to Red Cliff, you need to go back to the Shrine Pass road (which starts at the rest stop on top of VP). You left that road to go to Ptarmigan pass. Ptarmigan pass will take you to Camp Hale. I grew up in this area, but live in Gypsum now.

Army,

Glad to hear you will be with family over the holidays... When you return we might just have enough on the deck to get us back to Redcliff with out killing the machines. Great place for chow and an ice gold beverage of your choice. Plan on it for your return trip. Better yet, let's wait on your bride getting here, she would have a good time with mine,,,

I can introduce you to some of the other Leadville riders I have come to know. All good folks....

Glad to hear you did not thrash your sled.

Happy holidays.

Actually there was snow all they way to Red Cliff. We went and had lunch there.

And PJ I took my Yamaha SXviper Deep Snow Special but chose to ride the cat instead. Poor old 1999 ZRT has an 800 triple with 900 kit (many mods,162hp+). Track is camoplast 136x2 1/2 lugs with a hybrid ZRT/Powder Special skid of my own design. The Camoplast Powder Skiis finish it off and as I dont weigh much it goes through powder rather well. Well enough for me anyways.

Waiting for the four stroke yamaha's to get cheap....:face-icon-small-hap

Click on "Vail Pass" icon on the map.

From the parking lot at Vail Pass its Shrine Pass Road to Red Cliff. Red Cliff is a snowmobile friendly town so you can ride your sled right up to the local pub for food and drink. Please watch the corners for noobie riders driving down the middle of the road, we had a couple of close calls Saturday.

Also be aware that as soon as the season hits it gets so crowded you may wait for an hour or more to get in the parking lot.

Vail Pass

Got 9 days so far on Vail Pass starting back Oct 24th. Everything is early season riding conditions but there have also been some great early season powder days!!! Avoid Lime Creek Trail cause it has a lot of rocks and rough *** riding!! Wearyman is ok but there are still open creeks. They did groom most of the main trail systems and you can get to Red Cliff no problem (Mangos is closed until Dec.1) Havent riding over Ptarmagin Pass into Resolution rd but imagine its fine to Camp Hale.
Great year so far!!!! Summit Sledder!!!
