rode three 2010 cats today

point of comparison...i ride an 09 1000, speedwerx y-pipe, can, air intake mod and excellent clutching.....compared to the other 1000s i ride with that have full exhaust systems/clutching, mine is faster, both in drag racing and hill climbing, it runs with 1000 pump gas turbos in most drag races, and gets beat slightly on powder pulls and also the pg turbos will leave me after mine is tapped out for speed on drag races....this point is not for bragging, but as a point of comparison with the new 2010 m-8s, both sno-pro and hcrs.....snow conditions were soft, spring snow for the drag races and similar for our hill climb comparisons.....the m-8s i rode were obviously dialed, with never a bog, stutter, or hesitation of any kind....they were quick, clutched about perfect, although i thought both could use a couple of degrees more helix.....in a drag race off the line, the 1000 would jump them about a 1/2 sled length, then run dead even until the m-8s tapped out for speed, then the 1000 would continue to gain speed, with eventually having 5-8 mph more on the top end.....on the hill climb, with both sleds about 1 sled length from the break of an almost level to very steep hill, the results were almost identical, with the 1000 gaining 1/2 to 1 sled length on a 150 yd uphill run, stopped because of the hill cresting and trees....on the uphill race the hcr would pull the sno-pro slightly, probably because of the track.....in free riding with both sno-pro and hcr in uphill, technical pulls, trees, ravines, uneven terrain and very steep, the new 8s were flawless.....i frequently, through necessity and my curiosity, would completely back off the throttle, and get back into it...backshifting was quick and flawless, with power coming back in quickly and without hesitation....handling in these situations was very good, obviously lighter that my 1000, very good, forgiving type of ride that inspires confidence in difficult situations.....i preferred the hcr in these type of conditions, but in deep powder would probably take the 162 sno-pro for the float......i have had modded m-8s, but the 2010 8s would run rings around the previous years sleds....another point of comparison, i also have an 09 d-8, with slp exhaust, v-force reeds and milled head with very excellent clutching....the new m-8s handle that sled easily, both in drags and hill climbing, and also in ease of negotiating tough uphill technical climbs.....the other cat i rode was the 1100 turbo, with a 162 long track and boondocker control box, set at about 280 hp....delightful sled, comfy ride, but limited in rougher terrain, handles nice through the trees, and very fast....although i didn't line it up with the other sleds, i felt it would easily run away from any of them....i was riding the turbo by myself, and took care not to get it stuck, as it was obviously heavier than i would want to dig out by myself....bottom line, i was very impressed with the new m-8....the seat seems a bit high, a bit firm, has good storage, over-all improvement from last years'....wouldn't hesitate to rate the new 8s as the pick of the litter for next year....

they always run like that in demo rides but when you buy one off the floor you have to have a good mechanic and spend money to get them running like the demo sleds, AC needs to step up on factory setup.

great review, would love to be able to put a leg over one myself but no luck so far here in so. oregon!!! gonna pic one up around jan. figure the price will be better and want to give someone else the chance to be the genuine pig...

I sure hope that crank hold up there is a lot of talk about that, my m8 is the best sled i have ever rode and ride after ride it is always strong, i love modding this sled so much seems like everything i do makes a difference, thanks to snowwest for always giving me the heads up on what is working and what is not, i could buy any sled but for some reason that orange cat was always my fav. I will retire this one to my girl the 2010 is really looking good.

Since you had the HCR and the Sno Pros side by side in the deep powder. Could you give a comparision on the two tracks 153 to 153 in the powder. Did the HCR track do worse or was it pretty close. Trying decide which sled to snow check the HCR or the Sno Pro.

Richey,
I rode the Demos yesterday as well and fell in love with the HCR. I ride an 09 le and after riding the HCR i wish i had one. I rode the sno pro as well and it was fun and had alot of power but the HCR flat out ripped. There was no powder when i rode it just some mashed potates snow but the HCR track was super impressive and bit into the snow really hard. Also loved the handling of the wide front end. Now i am going to have to get one. Just need to figure out how

I have the same questions? What is the big difference between the HCR and the snowpro? I'm not into jumping or flat out speed, mainly boondocking, sidehilling and hill climbing (not to drastic, I'm old:beer;!). From the Cat website it looks like you don't have many color options, LE = black, snopro = white, HCR = Green and regular M8 = Green,,,,,, I don't really want a ditch pickel!!!! That snocheck LE is sure nice!!!!!!

Hopefully next fall they come running the same way that the demo's are running!!

Sorry but they never do. I have not seen one production sled run like the demo's probably because the demo's are fine tuned to impress everyone so they will order one. The 2010 are going to be impressive but they will have to be tinkered with like everything else.

Well if it's just tinkering with clutching it won't be a big deal. Just as long as the motor comes with the hp that they are talking. I can deal with everything else.

hcr track

I didn't think I would lose alot with the harder track, but I had the HCR in three feet of powder for the first time this weekend. It does bite into the snow, and it is harder to stay on top of it for sure. It kind of feels like your sinking. I love how the sled handles, but may go back to a M8, or swap out tracks.

Sorry, but my 09 did. I went with kevin last friday to see how they ran before they let the masses pound on them. These sleds run good but clutching was not dialed by any means, it was close but still had more to be had. It's my understanding that cat is still playing with mapping on these, hopefully they will clean them up a bit. I would be happy if they came close to the way they were on friday, pulled a pretty hard pull through the trees that my 09 wouldn't have come close to touching. If this is what is released poo and doo are going to have there hands full.
