rmk900 motor swap

how hard do you guys think it would be to swap a 2003 polaris 800 motor into a 05 900 chassis i know ill need to do modifications but i dont know to what extent so if you guys could fill me in it would be appreciated

This has been brought up in the past and while technically anything is "possible" it's just not really an option. Pretty much the only thing that will fit into a 900 IQ chassis without a complete 1-off custom build is a 900. You'd be much easier off to get your 900 running right, and with some steps, a 900 can be made as reliable as anything else out there.

What kind of things do you need to do, in order to get the 900 more reliable?

Take a look through the stickies in the 900 forum, particularly the "Read before you buy", and the "How To". Those will tell you everything you ever wanted to know and 10x more. What it ultimately boils down to though is SETUP and INSPECTION. You don't need anything aside from OEM 900 parts (some 2006 parts) to make a 900 100% reliable for thousands of miles. Anything you want to put on from the aftermarket after that will only enhance your experience.

Probably the MOST important thing I can suggest to a 900 owner is to take a couple minutes before and after EVERY ride, and just do a quick visual inspection to make sure no wires are getting pinched or melted, and that no hoses are in a position to have something vibrate against them and chafe through. The inherent vibration that the 900 is famous for can cause these issues if your not paying attention. It only takes a minute and can save you a lot of heart-ache when your on the hill:beer;
