rmk vs. pro handlebars and stem

looking at buying a standard 2011 rmk, do the pros and standard have the same steering stem so you can swap just the bars?

just wanting to know if i can put the pro tapers on without doing much.

nevermind - they do use different style steering stems.

the stem is different. flat top on the pros and a pivot style on the standard. you can switch them out but it requires a smaller pivot style riser to do so. as far as strength goes i cannot say as i have never used the pro tapers before.

also the electronics that are on the bar of the standard are located on the plastic shroud above the gas tank on the pro. and the pro has a different break cylinder and hand controls on the left hand side. If you are just planing on switching JUST bars you should have no problem for both bars are 7/8" bars.

I'd imagine you'd have a lot of trouble replacing "just" bars, the pro tapers are a good 6-7" taller than the standard bars without the pivot riser. have fun stretching your cables that far

The standard bars have a 2" rise in them with a 5" pivot riser under that (total rise is about 7"

The Pro tapers are at 7" sitting on my bench (just measured)

I like the pivot style steering post of the standard more.

To change, you will have to buy hand-warmers and maybe grips...

Also, I'm not sure if the brake/switch-pod of the RMK-standard will fit on the PT bars.

What is your reason for changing the bars... looks, how the fit you etc?

Lots of 2" rise bars in steel (I like the SPG and ROX) and alloy (RSI, FLY, and oter moto bars) that will give you the same feel.

Another option is to switch out your upper steering post, #9, for the PRO RMK.. which costs about $50 for the part.

Then you will be able to bolt on the PRO Taper bars.

I just pulled a set of Pro-tapers off the rack... there is not enough room on the bars to install the switch-pod/brake that comes on the standard RMK... You will need to run a PRO/Dragon/IQR master cylinder and relocate the switch pod.

On the pro taper, there is only 3" of space for the grip with the switch-pod mounted.

I am accustomed to the feel of the pro taper bars on my 2010 d8. If I switch to the standard, will it be noticeably different? How/why? Thanks!!

Might have a good deal on a 2011 standard and am concerned about the bars. I am accustomed to the pro taper bars on my 2010 10 d8. How different will the standard bars be? Sorry for the repost, but needed to get it back to the top! Thanks.

The protapers are also a full 2" wider than the standard RMK bar.I switch between my wifes standard RMK and mine with the Protapers and much prefer the protapers, better leverage. Also if you want to do a 2" rise as I did its a 5 minute job with the protapers. Not so with the wires running thru the riser block on standard RMK

Easy to swap out the standard riser also...1 minute with a saw to cut the factory riser to allow easy removal. No reason to run the wires inside the block on a replacement taller (or shorter) riser.

Do they make shorter pro taper bars that would fit the pro. They are too tall. Especially for my wife. Shorter bars are way better for tree riding.

Yeah I put the KLX-110 pro tapers on my pro because I wanted lower bars for all the tree riding I do to. Works out awesome although the inner wall taper is kind of a pain as it starts so far out. Nothing that a 9/16" drill doesn't take care of in a hurry though once you've cut the bars down. If you need any more advice on how to do it hit me up.

Oh and to people wondering about Pro Tapers on the older riser style blocks, the correct bar to get is the Pro Taper SE Schoolboy Hi Bend. It fits the older style controls with ease and can use the sweet hooks that come on the dragon/pro with the pro tapers. The only down side for some is you have to run a different style mountain bar. I just never have this problem cause I don't run one. But it works out sweet and you don't need to buy a new riser if you like your bars fairly normal and not like ape hangers.

If I were to purchase a standard 2012 155 800 RMK, is there a shorter riser block available through Polaris where I could drop the bars a few inches? (I know I can't do this with the Pro Tapers) This might sound a little odd, but my arms are as long as most gorillas and all these high rise stock bars are about 3" too tall for my liking.

I love the Pro tapers, only one pivot joint to worry about. Also, it took a while to get used to but I love the extra length. Extra leverage makes the sled feel even lighter.
