RMK 975 Help

I have just got a 05' with a 975 big bore kit. It has a bad crank bearing on 1 rod and a broken skirt on the same cylinder. The pistons look pretty rough and pitted looks like it was running lean. I am looking for any parts or possible complete engines. Ebay has some Way over priced parts. I had a engine core lined up going into this and now its going sour. I would like some input on which route I should go, 975 or back to 900.
The person I got this sled from told me about this forum and I,m pretty sure i read his post. I have plenty of experience rebuilding engines, 2 and 4 stroke. Any help would be great on finding parts.

I don't have any direct experience with the 975 but from what I see on this site you're going to have problems finding parts for it if you are able to at all. This is probably going to push you towards parting it out or going to the 900.

Wrt the 900 route, my engine failed last year and I decided to rebuild with almost all new parts vice replace some or buy a used engine which would potentially fall over the first ride out.

I'm mechanically inclined so I rebuilt it myself with pretty much all new oem parts. Another route that is likely slightly more expensive but probably worth the extra cost would be to have Indy Dan put a TM1 in it.

In my case, I rebuilt with:
a new oem case
a new oem crank kit (new crank with a larger PTO and all bearings/connecting rods, seals and clutch (doesn't come with the spring or weights))
new oem pistons
new water/oil seals for the cross shaft (had to swap old cross shaft into the new case)

I considered all my options and in the end, I've got a solid sled that will last me a bunch more years....I wouldn't be in the same position without a lot more time (parting out) and money (buying another sled). And unless I bought new, I wouldn't know what I had if I had gone a different route.

I got about 11000km on my original weaker engine. I know the rebuild is stronger and the sled is dialed in.

You can get a crank and new clutch through Polaris for around 1200 I think. Cylinder can be fix through Millennium tech, They can reenforce the ears. Carls is not getting piston but there was another guy, that was going to purchase them. I have a set of cylinders and 1 piston but I holding on to them hoping of some one coming up with pistons. Personally I would run the 975 It is a animal.

Where are you located?

I have a 2005 with a 975 that I stuck a piston on last winter and had the cylinder repaired by Millennium Technologies. I have not put the engine back together yet. I bought a newer sled and lost some of my motivation on the 975.

I would be open to selling the engine if you are interested. Or the whole sled.

If adrenjunki isn't interested in it or passes it up let me know I could be very interested in it...
