RMK 600 Electrical problems, 12v diagnostic?

First off, I'd like to say Hello to everyone from MN!

I just picked up a 2008 RMK 600 HO (carbed) for the wife, got it cheap, but it has some issues.

1) Handwarmers don't work

I tested them with a simple tester and have power to both the blue and blue/red. I tested ohm's, it alternates between zero and 17-19 on both those circuits...presumably due to being AC? I couldn't get a steady readout so it's hard to say for sure. I verified the control switch shuts off and turns on the circuits...yet they don't get warm. If they are getting power, but not shorted out, how come they don't work? I assume if they were shorted out, other accessories would not work either.

I also couldn't verify if the thumb warmer works...I can never tell if it's warm anyway on all my sleds.

2) Brake light switch is missing, does this affect the warmers? I read a post that they may share a common ground?

Headlights are bright, hi/lo works, kill switch works, mode switch, perc and dash work.

3) Speedo reading holds steady at 0. I assume this will turn out to be the sender.

Lastly, I have searched and read some of mountainhorse's posts on electrical, and I want to be able to test these without the sled running. Can I jump the 12v Diagnostic lead to an Optima car battery I have sitting around? I see he posted a part number for this, M-10 ACE / ECUChassis
Power-Up cable, PN PA-46355. Do I need this, or can I make my own harness?

It sounds like only the CFI models had the 12v diagnostic leads, so I think I'm SOL there.

Going to tear it apart, will post results. I assume the handwarmers are either grounded out to the bars, as there was a TSB for that and it wasn't done, or the elements are fried. Same goes for the speedo sender, I've read there are issues with those, so time to R & R some parts.
