RM250 Project

Lurked on here for a while. Well just finished 3 days of riding on a snowbike - one with the prototype 2015 skid. Every sled except for my turbo Pro has now been sold.

I have snowchecked a 2015 skid. I am going to put that on a KTM 450 SXF, and put boost on it (boondocker). Is a big bore kit on the KTM just overkill?

Second. I am going to have to build a second bike. I have a RM250 that I modded into a pretty hot woods machine. Pipe, porting kit, heavier flywheel, stator, lights and woods electronics. I have already ordered the 38mm SmartCarb for it, because I wanted it for mountain riding in the summer anyhow.

My 18 yr old daughter will also be riding the 250 bike. Has anyone tried a Rekluse in a 250?

Other than wrapping the pipe, carb heater, skidplate and bigger pegs - anything else I should be doing?

Thanks!

I can't speak for the snowbike version, but I run a Rekluse on my RM250 riding single track and moto and it is awesome!

Headlights are nice for early season. After Feb or so I haven't needed mine.

Also need altitude adjustment. Vari-flow, inteli-jet pick your fave.

There's a few good 2 stroke writeups on here if you look around.

250'n

I have a wr450 and yz250 and pal with ktm250 smoke'n. recluze not as critical on snobike due to the huge amount of reciprocating weight due to 44lbs of track plus idlers plus driveshaft/drivers, you won't be stalling the engine. However, a well adjusted new model recluse is a nice touch.

mostly fatten the rm bottom power /stock it has plenty of topend, on top end a smaller person on good 250 will walk on a 450 if you have some open area and let the old 250 run. early deep snow slogging through real deep, that's when my 450 is good and 250 a pain, your daughter will never have a problem following your 450, just tough in deeper snow slow going to honk along on the 250 making your own trail.

Does anybody make a big bore kit for the RM maybe 300+cc, I'm not a Suzuki guy. It would give you that little extra that might make the difference and for most of the other brands they are pretty cheap.

Just realizing I have been thinking about this the wrong way.

Makes no sense building a 250 for the kid. She is likely going to want to ride the KTM as she can just lug it around in 3rd gear when we go out, plus it will have estart. Makes more sense to build out the KTM, and when she does ride - I can just use the RM.

Seeing as how I was going to get a Gorr 295 big bore it for the summer - I think I am ready to go. Thanks for the responses
