RKT head on 07 800R PING ????

:( I know there were some comments on this last year, but any info appreciated. I am hearing pinging/light detonation at part throttle cruise with
14.6 to 1 RKT head on 07 800R. Richened needle 1 click which helped some for ping but worsened fuel mileage on trail and didn't eliminate ping.
Other than that, I'm happy with the head and have about 500 trouble free miles so far, but common sense tells me detonation is only a matter of time until trouble! Haven't had any response yet from RKTech from phone messages but I
did e-mail them and am waiting for a reply there. However, while waiting I'd like to be RIDING! So any help would be appreciated! By the way...we are talking 6,000 to 9,000 FT and up.

Any help out there please????

What octane you running? What is your starting elevation? Pipe? You usually can not hear deto, if you do damage has alreeady occured.

Running premium pump fuel usually 91 oct. Most always starting at 6,000 and up. Don't notice pinging when at 8k or more but not doing any part throttle trail cruising at 8k or more either. Stock everything but head. Had about 500 miles on before I put head on and nearly 1.000 miles now...noise came with the head.

I'd say that 14.6:1 is flirting with disaster with pump gas at your elevation at least at 6000 - 7000.

I would say throw in a gallon or two of 114 or higher octane. Gas out of the pump may be close to 91 octane but its not guaranteed. Nor is the quality. You can richen the fuel mixture but it won't eliminate the deto.

How do you hear the engine pinging? My sled is loud and with my helmet on ... I'm lucky to hear my own thoughts.:p

Running 10 or 15% race fuel will more than likely solve your pinging issue. I was not sure you could hear deto until a few days ago with my UBR 900. I had my cases line bored, which altered my deck height by .003". That little bit of additional squish sent my sled into deto which was very noticeable with my earplugs in. Accelerating hard it was very noticeable something wasn't right. I jetted a wee bit richer with the same result, I then increased my octane with an additional 10% 110 and the problem was corrected. I can't see any visible damage.

I put the factory can back on as per Kelsey, it's surprising how many noises you here when you don't have a loud can barking in your ear.

Was that head designed for pump gas at your altitude? Adding some race fuel should solve your problem. Or if you dont like that idea send the dome back and get some 14:1.
