RKT Diamond Drive Secondary Kit on M8- Who's Running One?

Looking for input on the RKT secondary kit. I ride a 08 M8 sno pro with SLP pipe setup.

How has your experience been with this kit? I am also looking for input as to what helix angle I should order for 8-10000 ft.. Kelsey suggested either the 36-34 progressive or straight cut 34. Thoughts?

I do do a majority of my riding at appx 1500 ft., but make numerous trips to the mountains in the winter. I would like to have the clutching set up to perform best at altitude, and am ok with less then perfect clutching at 1500 ft. as the extra HP can make up for that.

Thanks in advance.

Matt

Not an apples to apples, but I have an RKT 8 bigbore and RKT secondary conversion, running straight 34* helix. Don't have any time on the BB yet but I spent some time on the stock 7 with 34* and I was happy. I'd go with Kelsey's recommendation.

Edit: I ride 895' at home and 6600'+ with the same 34* helix.

I'm thinking of one for my 2010. But I'm going to wait. Curious to see what comes up on this thread.

How can the adjustability be used effectively on a torsion setup. It seems like once you find the right spring they should be comparible. But with the torsion set-up you can accomplish similar performance from different springs=less farting around.

I've only clutched newer roller secondary doo's and the qrs. First year coming up for a cat. Never used a system like the older cats or the kits like kelsey's. I could be way out to lunch, are the basic princliples any different from a compression vs. a tortional set-up?

I'm running the 38/36. Average around 4500-8000' and ran the A/C SnoPro green spring last year. Waaaaay too much backshift and struggled to shift out. After a few PM's back and forth with Kelsey I'm gonna try the Speedwerks blue and the Cat red/white this year. The kit makes preload adjustment and belt changes super quick and easy. One of the most important factors in any sled mod is the after sale support; you won't find any better than Kelsey as far as this goes.

A call to Kelsey will help a LOT. Take 10 minutes and give him a call and have him explain the differences. I will say this, having ridden my 06 M7 with and without the conversion- it made a HUGE difference in upshift and backshift. the stock clutch was kind of blah, after the conversion it was a whole new machine.

My thoughts as well. :beer; Only got about a hour and a half in on my m7 with the kit before smoking a rock last year, but I could really tell the difference.

I know my husband was looking at it was well with his '10 m8, but I think he is going to hold off as it will void the warranty. (don't think he should get it anyway, I need to at least be able to keep up with him ;).)

It would have to be a pretty crappy dealer to void the warranty for a clutch kit.

I've run them on most of my sleds & really liked the results & the adjustability.

my take on the RKT secondary kit

I installed the RKT kit on my 2009 M8 162" and it worked fine around home (2000ft) but up in the hills I could not get the clutch to grab the belt...huge slipping issues, smokin belts, after a million adjustments and playing a buddy of mine had a brand new STM 11" old style helix type of secondary, good god people there is no doubt in my mind that this HAS to be in every Cat I own from now on.
I have the RKT kit installed if anyone wants to trade for their stock clutch (2009) trade complete assembly?
Think you can make it work? no money trade, just simply a swap out for a stock 2009 clutch

I'm on a M1000 but...........I run the RKT secondary set=up. 34 straight, Speedwerx Blue spring and it works very well for the riding and high elevations we run here in Colorado and Wyoming.

Installed one on my dads 08 m8 last winter. Difference was night and day for the better. Up shifted and backshifted like it should. Didn't do much riding at sea level so I couldn't help you out there.

thanks

I am more concerned with having an optimal high alt setup. The extra 30 hp at sea level can make up for slightly less than optimal clutching.

TTT I'm looking at ordering one for my 09 M8 as well.:beer;

We ran three on our 09 m1000's. The clutch shifts real nice Good up shift quick back shift and our belts seemed to last. We werent all that happy with how the revers worked with the 09's It would only engage if the belt tension was real tight and even then some times it would not grab and if you wacked the throttle and it didnt hook it would screw your belt.

i have a RKT 38/36 sno-pro green on stock 09 M8 LE 153 it makes a huge difference. I tried a 42-40 and straight 36 from cat and not even close to RKT on the hills. but i went through 4 belts last season in 800 mi. i was out climbing the clutched XP's last year. some guys with XP's were impresed with my cat and wanted to ride it so i let them and i rode thier XP's, on the trail i think XP's ride better but with the RKT secondary i can beat them on the hills, with the stock secondary the XP's did beat me on the hills.

I have tried my very best with this kit. I did get the very first generation.

The only flaw I see with this kit and any other torsion conversion with this secondary clutch is that as the inner bearing wears there is allot of binding. Like stated above the STool secondary has a different way of running these bearings...... not to mention sheave angles. When not using the extra set of rollers in the clutch the play can bind the bearings.

Not bashing RTK's kit or great train of thought.

For you low lander's try a 48/42 progressive helix with goodwin's blue/yellow and a dalton billet end cap. Use an open ended helix only with goodwin's springs. Run some tip weight. Full tipped weights make these sleds run out real well.

Heck if you IM me you can have my first Gen kit. I will even send you AC red/white spring with it. You can put this kit into any open ended helix you want. To much of my time wasted trying to make it work.

Don.

I have RKT set-up on my 06 m-7 and it is the single best mod you can do to a cat! It makes it a whole different sled. Im running a straight 34 but might try a 36/34 next year with the sno-pro green spring.
