RK TEK kit failure

Anybody else out their having problems with the bolts that hold the helix to the clutch shearing or breaking? and the "tabs" for the reverse gouging the helix?

Many people have had problems with those "bolts" on stock secondarys as well. I dont think the problem relates to RKT's kit. Who installed the kit?

there's thread after thread about the bolts on the cat helix, and better replacements for them, esp. if you didn't use brand new bolts it's not exactly a shocker that they broke on you. I use the stock ones, but use new ones every time I switch helixes, it costs about $3.

As for the tabs, that seems relatively common, but it's not relaly hurting performance though is it?

I installed the kit using the bolts that came with it. The installation was easy. I used the proper torque and loctite. The kit failed with less than 100 miles and left me stranded in the hills. I was able to be towed out but still a pain as it destroyed a brand new 060 belt. The tabs dont affect performance but to me are suspect as they engage really rough into reverse and gouge the helix creating alot of exess wear on the reverse side. I spoke with another guy i ran into out riding who had the exact same thing happen to him twice with this kit. Needless to say he isnt using it again. I now have over 700 miles on the sled since reinstalling the stock setup using the same original bolts with not a problem.

I had that happen to me twice on my RKT set-up.:face-icon-small-sad I have tried the stock set-up and the team conversion set-up. I have used new bolts and stronger bolts that i picked up from fastenal. Always used locktite and the proper torque. Never had a problem with ether one of those set-up's. I think it has to do with the fact that one has compression tension and the other one has a torsional tension. The RKT kit is on the shelf.

You think the relatively small amount of torsional force would be shearing the bolts? That seems strange that it would happen in less than 100 miles for him.

ive been using this kit for over 2500 miles.just like everything else that you modify and ride hard there has to be maintance and inspection.my clutches come off and get cleaned at least every hundred miles.have seen were on these bolts and changed them when needed.kelsys kit really works well for me.

This is not a RKT related issue:light:...proper installation is key. However, the thin bolts are a bit weak, ive had mine apart about 10 times, you can get away with reusing bolts, but its a bad idea, only if you must. and yes, the silly tiny bolts on the cat sec clutch are stupid, make em wider and shorter cat!!

and the "torsional" thing is over rated, easy deflection adjustment is the only reason i have one.
