RK Tek 858 Big Bore Kit

Gentlemen

I have a 2012 800 Rush Pro R with an RK Tek 858 Big Bore Kit an ride at Sea Level. Let me start off by saying that Kelsey has been great to work with and I believe his product is a great one and I just need to get it "tuned in"

I got it all together and took it for a ride and it seemed to run very very rich and would even hesitate right at 6700 RPM (where the exhaust valves open) if I was accelerating at moderate pace. If I hit it pretty good it would blow through that spot but still seemed to be a bit doggy.

I should mention that I had it fueled with 4 gallons of 90 Octane Non ethanol pump fuel and one gallom of 108 Octane C12 (I think this puts it at about 94 octane) I should also mention that I only have about 10 to 20 miles on the kit so I understand that it is far from broken in but I I can not imagine it getting that much better just by "breaking it in"

Can someone please help me with some fuel tuning recommendations for either a Power Commander 5, or a Boon Docker. I also have access to auto tune as well??? Does anyone think I have overdosed it on octane and that is hurting the performance??

Also any thoughts on clutching would be helpful??

Again I want to say that I am glad I got the kit and would recommend Kelsey and his work. I understand fuel tuning very well but I do not have allot of time on the weekends to mess with it and just want to get it right so I can ride.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Good Question.

In the Primary I have 180/330 with SLP MTX Weights that are a total of 72 Grams

In the Secondary I have the Team Tied Secondary with 64/60 Helix and Black/Red spring.

the difference when broke in is substantial. mine felt doggy and sluggish for the first 60 miles, and then got better and then at around 150 miles it REALLY woke up! i didn't mess with any fueling at all until that point and i couldn't be happier with how mine runs now. what domes are you running? we are running straight non ethanol pump gas in ours, race fuel when not needed can definitely cause a "doggy" feeling due the fuel not burning properly

I riding mine at 2000 feet and at 4000 - 7000 feet in the mountains. I only have one trip on it to the mountain with it and I found it did run better. At home at 2000 feet I have had to cut alot of fuel to make it run better and I think I can keep cuting fuel and it will run even better as it still is bogging on the lake running high RPM with low load.

I find that when the motor is loaded up more it runs better. When I am having trouble is when I am trail riding or on the lake.

I have the 12.5:1 domes and I will start running the straight non ethanol pump gas.

WOULD YOU PLEASE SHARE WITH ME YOUR FUEL SETTINGS???

Thank You Scott

Do you run an AFR gauge?

Thank You VERY MUCH for sending this to me.

I am running the 12.5 to 1 domes...Do you think I would need to go even a bit leaner then what you have shared with me below??

If so by how much??

Please let me know your thoughts and again...THANK YOU!!

-Scott

its hard to say with out running an AFR... i would think a little but i have no idea how much

I have same kit and 2 other friends do too and I definitely wish I never put kit on as mine goes into det 7 mode right away as I leave parking lot on sled. My friends sleds run pretty good at times and id say they would go back to stock if they could also. Kelsey told us that they are simple and no messing around with them and to plug his numbers in and thats it. Well I call bs cause so far 3 sleds ive seen have small issues where alot of tinkering is involved and as for my sled that as soon as it hits 5000 rpm goes into retard mode or det 7 im ready to drive it off a cliff if I could get up to a cliff on it.

what elevation and clutching are yo running? sounds just like my drop in kit was doing, hits det because its reving too fast load up with more weight and see if it helps.pm jkinser he should help ya out..

Those tachs actually sorta slow responding. Just for fun, throw 2 grams heavier weights at it to see what it does.

Its weird cause my sled hitting det 7 at 5000 rpm so that would nt be hitting rev limiter and still doing det 7

Just saw other thread from zx7. Deleted my comment here. Please ignore.

Sorry for the trouble on ur kit but I just installed my kit and it ripped from the start!!! Only thing I had to do was take 2numbers down on fuel at 5000. After that I pull the rope n head for the highest deepest stuff I can find and all it does is pull harder n harder!!! 2013 pro 14 domes team tied rooster weights 2-3 gallon of 110 race fuel mixed with 91. No det no problems.

Well, that should not be det as in fuel igniting without spark. More the revving to fast mentioned.

You do know the ecu monitors rpm RISE and will throw det if it rises to fast?
