Im wondering how you guys like this kit? worth the money even if just had my cylinders re-plated? i am either going with this kit or there drop in kit (head, 2 ring pistons) and porting. i have an 04 800 ho non dpm. will they both use around the same amount of fuel? is the 827 less reliable?

My personal opinion would be Big John. He seems to be very knowledgeable and professional.

If you want a kit, I can sell you mine. I am returning the sled back to stock. My wife doesn't need a mod motor.

rkt 827

i have that kit in a 04 ,works good but took a little work to get the clutching right..i think Kelseys kit might have a little more juice do to his porting ,BJ uses a rkt head on his kits and a simalar brand of piston so the differences will be debatable..usually are around here ..lol.. fuel consumption not to sure it was rough when i put it in but after a few calls to rkt and a couple of changes in jetting it is at least as good as stock..my kid will be riding it this year and when my new one shows the jug and box will be heading for Idaho for a little massage ..hope that helps:

That is not the 827.

Big John himself uses the RK pistons and domes. He will tell you the 827 is a great motor.

From that thread most of the people that have had problems, have tuning issues (leaking carb boots) do not jet properly, etc. There are no cold siezes.

The 827 is a great kit that will need some tuning, mostly clutching. I was considering the kit for a long time, I contacted Big John ,spoke with Kelsey and also talked to DJ about clutching. DJ has a clutch kit for that motor.

Big John for sure I had one of his 840's in my flatland XRS last year...the thing fricken ripped...I put 3000 hard miles on it and sold it to my buddy in March and he put another thousand on before he put it away. After some minor clutching and jetting the thing was gas and go for the whole year.. I have ridden both motors...the 827 is a screamer and likes to be revved whereas the 840 is a lot torquier down low...BJ is easier to get a hold of tho.....Both motors are great but BJ's an easily accessible tuning resource which is worth mega bucks when your trying to get your sled dialed..

I'm just running his piston kit, apparenly it's the one loosing the ring locator pin, but mine hasn't gone down yet!(knock on wood!!!!) Just the pistons made a huge difference, I really like all of Kelsey's products, great guy to talk to as well!

I have a 827 in my '03 ZX and I only got 5 miles out of it before she blew... nothing to do with the kit.... had a PTO crank seal go... leaned her out and squeek! Putting it back together for another run.

On the other hand my buddy has one and it rips! Compared to a slightly modded 800 ('03) it pulls away on the hills... while the slightly modded 800 is losing speed climbing a hill, the 827 continues to climb... still some clutching to do but is pretty impressive. His is the non-ported version... mine is ported so I can't wait to see how it pulls in comparison!

Love my 827 but I haven't had any others either. Clutching wasn't bad, just ski-doo sea level setup. Runs good on Shell 94, not so good on anything higher or lower.

I have an 827 in a 06 my setup

2 turns out on the carb screws
07 needles and raise one clip
390 mains
1/4 carb spacers

My EGTs temps are 1175-1200 from mid to full throtle tried to just use a extra spacer on the needles in clip three but was 1225-1250 in mid range.
I'm not sure why but using this head you got to fatten up the mid-range or your heading for trouble.
