risers, how high can I go

Have a 08 Dragon and looking to add a 8 or 9 inch riser. From previous post it seems that anything over 7 inches requires a new throttle cable and brake line.

How high can you go before you run into issues with the other wiring, high low beam, thumb hand warmers ect ?

8 or 9 inches? How tall are you? I'm 6'3" and run the factory 5.25" riser, I couldn't see any need to go over 6". I would say that you will have to extend and re-rout all your lines to go over 7" safely and still be able to turn. It's not that hard to extend them, but is it really neccessary? Have you seen how awkward John Orr on the 509 Revolution film looks while riding with a riser that is crazy high for his height? Watch how hard it is for him to control his sled on those crazy climbs, compared to everyone else in the movie. His legs are all bowed out trying to control direction instead of just leaning.

The high riser thing is a fad. It's like putting diesel smoke stacks on your pickup. You will only hurt your performance going that high. When riding deep ruts at slow speeds it will become almost impossible to stay on your sled.

I put a 2 inch riser on my assault with no cable mods and it works alright. just watch the brake line it will rub on the metal by the steering post. i just put a peice of fule line over top and some wire loom over the electrical.

High riser thing a fad? The only reason it will go away is because of sleds like the IQR where the steering post is higher on the sled, requires less of a riser cause the bars are already up at a good position.

I just installed a 7" RSI riser setup on my 08 Shift with IQR flat bars. I LOVE it. I could almost use an 8" but cannot justify the expense of changing. Looking at all my cables and hose, I could get an 8" no problem on my setup. However I have an RSI throttle block, and repositions most everything. The IQR bars are a little narrower than my previous setup so the controls are closer in to the riser.

In slow, fast, or whatever riding that thing is perfect for me. Hell the guys I rode with this past weekend were all sit down riders and they commented how amazed they were I could ride like I do, through what I do, and stay planted on my sled. The riser is part of that. Good grip allows for using your arms to keep you in position.

Try riding standing straight up all day. Even being slightly bent over for a too short riser made my back hurt bad by the end of the day.

I have an 08 D8, I went with a 2" higher bar, I have been riding it without changing anything, little bit of re-routing but thats it, The brake line is the only one thats questinable, I think I will end up getting a longer one but its the only one even close to being too short.
