ring end gap on 800 cfi

I am installing new pistons and rings after having slp port my cylinders. does anybody know what the ring end gap should be ?
 
I don't have a service manual handy, but a good rule of thumb is .003" for every in. of bore. Example; I used to run .012"-.015" on my ported, piped, and high compression 800 ves. Hope that helps some.
 
i cked end gap with my old top ring from mag side to mag side cylinder just to compare it was .017,then cked with new ring and it was .023 so its not like i can bring it down.these are oem pistons which slp rec.any ways got any ideas?

If you honed the cylinder (which I'm assuming you have) then your ring end gap is going to be larger than it was before. It's not exactly optimal, but in the 2 stroke engine building world, there's not a lot of options. None of the piston builders intentionally build the rings tighter like the 4 stroke car and truck world. You can't close that gap, you can only file and open it.

The only good part is that you are using dual ring pistons so you'll have some extra sealing pressure.
 
so at this point instead of trying to buy another set of rings and hope they are alittle tighter ishould just run-em?Yes slp did put a light hone on the cylinders
 
Yes, with that gap you should be fine. The most important thing with ring end gap is that it is not so tight that when the motor heats up the gap closes completly.
