I am looking to replace my old boots that I have had for years and I’m not sure if I want to go with a more rigid snowboard style boot or something a little softer. How many of you like the more rigid boots and how many like a softer boot.

I used snowboard boots exclusively this year. I like them a lot, as they offer really good support and are pretty light comparatively too. Also keeps me from needing two sets of boots around.

I was in the same boat, I had the softer sorel type boot for years, even the moonboots in the late 80's early 90's if anyone remembers those :D but I kept seeing everyone going with snowboard boots which are much stiffer, and wondered what all the hype was about, so I went to try a few pairs on, I personally didnt like how stiff they were, and on top of that the boot was really wide at the toes, another thing I didnt like, so I opted out. I ended up buying a pair of the Klim Adrenaline boots, after a full season of riding in them I have to say I am really happy, I rode in 80 degrees down to -30 and never had cold or wet feet, they are stiff and have good support like a snowboard boot, but not quite as stiff, they break in nice, a great happy medium in my opinion, as well as the toes were not really wide like snowboard boots to fit in your running boards better, so if your looking for a happy medium, I would highly suggest these.

I've tried various boots also. The snow board boots work well, lots of support, nice on ankles. They are very hard to walk in though, you lean over in them, not comfortable to walk in, also very stiff and bulky. This year I tried the Klim Adrenaline boots. The best ever, pricey, but you get what you pay for. They keep your feet dry and warm, easy to walk in, and comfortable.
I would recommend them for anyone looking for new boots. One of the best purchases I've made.

Snowboard boots rock....no fear of rolled/busted ankles and help you stand up nice and straight through the bumps.

They take about 2 rides to get used to, then you'll never want anything else. Mine are Burton's with the quick lace system.....yank a couple pull cords and you're off and running.

It also helps, cause they can actually be used for snowboarding for the couple times a year I do that.

You couldn't pay me to ride in a Sorel-style soft boot again....no joke

Love my snowboard boots, i wouldn't trade them for anything. As for them being too stiff, they do break in and get a little softer.

I love my Soloman snowboard boots with one exception: The plastic lace hooks and clasp on the tongue are continually breaking. I have stopped replacing them and just use duct tape. Next time I buy boots, I will look for some without so many breakable plastic parts.

In my opinion, snowboard boots work great for snowmobiling. This is a good time of year to catch a bargain.

After ridin' in Sorels and snowboard boots for many years, I tried a pair of hunting boots...Rockys. To my suprise they kept my feet warm and dry just as well as heavier boots and are much lighter.
That's all I've worn for about 7 years now. Just a good polypro...sock and wool socks and they've worked from about -20F on up.
Needing a new set this year as the soles are cracked and Goretex is shot.
Even my leather Danners, goretex, light insul have worked well, but have to keep them oiled or they soak up alot of water.

All so ride with snowboard boots. Northwaves. Very light and grippy, give great support when going through the bumps also they come up the shins higher than most other boots so it gives better protection when you do slip off and bang the shin or ankles on your running boards. This is a great time of year to pick up snowboard boots usually can find alot of them at 50% also check out steepand cheap.com they carry a ton of boarding gear for pennies.

I prefer a softer boot. Riding with the Klim Adrenaline GTX this year, super comfy and light, I am unfortunatley having some water issues with them but nothing they wont replace under warrenty.:beer;
