Riding with a saw (chainsaw?)

was wondering what you guys are carring for a saw.

any one carring a small chainsaw? ever have any starting problems when time to use it comes?

how about a cable saw? do they work?

or a good fixed blade saw. Whos got the best?

Breaking trails we carry a saw (Johnsered or Still) and an axe ... lots of windfalls this year so the trails needed major clean up.

Buddy of ours has a small Still that fits in the luggage bag.

My buddy and I both have Stihl chain saws with 14" blades. I have an MS-192 TC for ~$300. Top handle for more compact size. It weighs 7lbs. Super light. There are two filter options, get the one that flows more air. My buddy has the $600 35+cc MS200 Stihl that weighs 7.7 lbs. It runs better than mine at high elevation and cold temps with the extra features it carries. Buddy uses a Cheetah Factory Racing snowboard rack and his 09 boss Cat HCR seat in conjunction to mount his. I use a Fabcraft Fuel rack tie down system to secure mine to the tunnel in a waterproof sack I got from Jax Surplus on a 2010 M8. Both setups strap it down well and keep moisture out.

co 2.0's buddy's setup... I love this!!!

bcil... Every have any problems starting saws? or do you turn fuel off? just wondering cause i always have a problem starting saws after theve had a good bounce in the truck

I have no problem getting either of our stihls started below 10K ft in anything above 20deg. Get down to 0 deg and over 11K ft and yes it can take a few minutes to start them and keep them going. The bouncing around on the sleds doesn't seem to have too much impact. Just got to get something like a waterproof sack to keep snow out when riding.

I don't think I have a shutoff on my 440, plus mine is a TAD large for the sled. I just stole the pic from JP's FB page.

That 200... man, dead sexy.

we care the chain saws on the tunnel of our sleds, i will take a pick of the mount we made, i must have a couple of thousand miles with my 170 on the back, the odd time the recoil freezes up but i just hold it under the exhaust for a min. and she is good to go. i have been thinking of makeing a cover to fit over the top and i have been makeing a new hold down out of an old snowboard binding, work great, quick on and off
