Riding Rhino bareback

Rode Mt Baker today, and WTF! I don't care how sunny it's going to be next week, those whoops SUCK! The snow was deep and coming down hard up at the meadows, couldn't see much to go up hirer. Coming down was worst than going up, Oh my god, I would pay top dollar to have a licensed massage therapist to be full time in the upper parking lot. Maybe we need to take after the Canadians and collect $$ at the trail head to make sure it gets groomed daily. Just my thoughts!!

I'll save all those the time and effort who will chime in and flame the guy for writing this.

"Attend the grooming meetings and voice your concern even though it will do no good."

"You're crazy, who would collect the fees? Geez, what a stupid idea"

"You have no right to complain about the groomers. they do the best they can"

"The groomers didn't budget their grooming runs well enough to continue grooming until the end of the stated season".

"Ride somewhere else."

"Real riders don't ride trails."

"if everyone only rode at 3.4 MPH on the groomed trails they would last until June".

"We need Gregwhore to tax us out of more of our money, then mishandle it too and still not be able to fund the grooming"

I'm sure I forgot a few so chime in with the rest of them please.

one of the issues with grooming is that its not done at night. The snow needs to setup for the grooming job to last. If grooming is done before everyone is off the mountain then it gets destroyed by those coming down after he is done. Typically that is why best to do it 7-8pm and let the snow freeze all night. But there is also the risk that the groomer driver could get stranded up there at night if his rig breaks down.

It wouldn't matter if he groomed at night, the temps don't get low enough for the snow to set up hard on this side of the mountains. Plus there are easily 200 sled trips a day on the weekends up and down the hill and that tears it up too. The groomer could make 2 trips a day on the weekends and not make any difference in trail quality. I was there yesterday too, went up Blue Lake road and had a great ride, a few tracks in and lots of pow. Came back down and went up to Schreibers and yeah it was rough, but it wasn't as bad going downhill for me. It costs about 150.00 an hr to run the groomer and it travels at about 3 to 4 mph when conditions are good. Everything takes time and time is money!
Change in the way things are financed must come from the top down. Lots of ideas out there, talk to your state reps, write letters to them, The Squeaky Wheel Gets The Grease!

It all comes down to getting the groomers more money so they can do the job they'd like to do.

Everything has gone up in cost.
The state needs to supply more funds to the groomer that we pay them for permits and gas.
Until that happends we can expect it to get worse each year.
I just don't have much faith that the state can be efficient at this.
They're better at funding statues of naked little boys holding hands with naked men in the parks around Seattle. (this is a fact, I'm not just being disgusting)

Yeah, Yeah, I know it more important to make sure that the people who don't want to work any more and would rather the the State giving them money so they can drink there life away or what ever they do. Maybe be we can just kidnap one of the homeless and put him next to the trail head there at Baker and have him collect $$ for the groomer. Sh.t I'll put in the first $150.00 if that cuts out 5 miles of whoops for the first sunny day of riding.

Why is it that Canada, Idaho and Montana can such great trails with the groomer going up twice a day in some cases. At least the snow clubs take the $$ in Canada and make sure it goes to good use. Why don't we just do that. If some one runs off with the $$ we'll just hire Tonya Harding to take care of them (LOL).

Or we all pool up some $$ and run down to Olympia and donate a sled (something w/ trailing arms) to our wonderful Governor and take her on a nice ride. That might stir the pot.

Now that just my thoughts.

Now in light of the poor economic conditions that we blame everything on, i think we could only offer the Gov. a "one way ride"
