Hey guys and gals. Coming down from MT on the 20th and going to ride the 21st and the 22nd around SLC. Have been doing some research and it looks like we will try Bountiful and American Fork each of the days, still up in the air though. I was curoius to see if you guys had any opinions on any of these places or any other places. Want to stay close to SLC. Excited to try some utah snowmobiling. Thanks in advance.

IMO, AF is tough to find places to ride unless you know the area well. Not familiar with Bountiful. If you are considering any areas around Heber City I can throw out a few more suggestions as well.

Would be interested in around heber city. I have also read about mirror lake? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again

I would ride east of Heber before I would Bountiful. Bountiful is lacking when it comes to the amount of ridable terain compared to the Heber area. The Mirror Lake Hwy has tons of riding areas also and can be accessed from Kamas (North east of Heber).

that weekend my brother and i will be in logan canyon at tony grove, in bountiful if you find the the "B" that is the start of above bountiful, and above slc is the top of big cottonwood canyon just before getting to the last ski resort is a hair pin switch back that goes over top of guardsmen pass and can ride there. but for good boondocking riding either tonygrove in logan canyon or strawberry east of Heber or soapstone/wolfcreek area which is accessed off the mirror lake highway behind kamas all great riding

Agreed both Bountiful and AF canyon areas are limited unless you are familiar with the areas....Strawberry Reservior, East of Heber, East of Woodland/Kamas are all much better options.

maps of these areas can be found here.

Thanks for the opinions guys. Probably going to ride out of Kamas then and also since the girls will be in Park City. It looks pretty far to get to mirror lake, Is that correct? Also like stated before, looks like alot of riding east of kamas. WAs just thinking of riding AF because of the snow. Use to be a liftie at Alta and know how much snow they can get in those canyons. But when limited terrain, I would much rather do alot of boondocking and hit some big meadows. Thanks Again.

dude,
just go to AF or bountiful, follow the tracks.
However if you cant sidehill or dont like technical challenging terrain, then go to heber.

Your very best bet is to hook up with some locals! There is a ton of terrain to be had.(don't tell anyone though!!O:tsk: ) Bountiful is one of my favorites, but there are amazing places in heber/Uintahs also. Never ridden AF,so can't help you there.
Be honest about your sled skills, and you will do fine...but there is some pretty radical stuff to get into if you overshoot your limits! If you do the Uintahs..definitely take a local, or at the very least...a GPS! It is easy to get lost up there when you're out pounding the pow, and not paying attention.
Good luck, and hope it's a great trip for ya.

not worried about my skills, more less worried about how to get to the riding spots and were to unload. THe opinions are great and keep them coming. To me it looks like AF is not the biggest area to ride but looks like alot of fun sidehilling and alot of trees. I Believe i know how to get to AF as its just one canyon south of the hippy(little cottonwood) canyon, but what about Bountiful? Parking, Highway number? As stated before, just trying to keep my options all open and lookin for opinions. THanks again for all the info.

Guardsman's is pretty awesome too, and if your girls are going to park city, you can park like 6 mins outside of town to access it.

Bountiful is off of I-15. Take the 400 North exit, and head east. Look for the big "B" on the mountain. Unload at lower parking lot, or you can drive up Skyline drive to deadman's curve if the roads are good. They are not plowed or paved. Then just follow the sled tracks, or hook up with someone already on the mtn.

Well, today tried to go to bountiful. Stopped at tri city motorsports to get a few things and then headed up. Got a ways up and didn't see any snowmobile tracks so I thought I would keep going to the parking area. That was not a good idea. My truck broke through the crust and was hung up bad. Another guy came up in a jeep and tried to pull me out. He then broke through the crust too. So now we have two vehicles hung up on the hard snow. About an hour later another guy came up and got the jeep pulled out and then he headed back down. So now it's just the guy in the jeep and my brother and I. He then got me out and had to back down the road a ways until lower snow. All in all, we were stuck from 11 till 3. Didn't even get to go snowmobiling. It was a gong show.

Thinking of heading to karmas tomorrow. Hopefully I don't have that black cloud around me tomorrow.
