Riders

I am a university student and I am doing a project on snowmobiles and riders. I obviously have to have more than just my thoughts on the subject so I'm asking you. What is the thing that you love the most about snowmobiling. Also, what things/hobbies do you do outside of snowmobiling?

For me it's about a feeling. 26 degrees, sunshine, waist deep powder and a great running sled with a full tank of gas. Being able to go where ever you want, with fluffy powder hitting you in the chest. Finding a nice bowl with perfect snow and no tracks and just carving it up. It's the feel of the sled pulling hard and floating the powder while you lay it over and carve around a spruce tree and shoot up the hill to carve back around and float down the hill and drop off of a boulder the size of a bus into a chest deep trough of powder and the whole time listening to the perfect harmony of two stroke power ringing in your helmet as to try to catch your breathe and wipe that silly assed grin off you face. That's what it's about.

What else do I do: ride modded out quads, race dirt bikes, hunt everything in North America and the best of all is I share it all with my beautiful wife and daughter!

it cant really be summed up in a sentance. it is such a variety of things that set it off for me. yeah powder, yeah freedom, power, risk, comrodery, skill, on and on. you just cant get the variety from anything else. get on a street bike, obey a bunch of rules, and always look over your shoulder for the fuzz if you do somthing exciting. jet skis haha, only good thing about them is they get chicks in bikinis. dirtbikes come close but not my cup o tea.

i do nothing else. i work to support my sled habit, its just me

you cant forget that every day isnt perfect. theres nothing bad about just being out on garbage snow. you gotta remember that you can get some real distance on and explore on those days. somtimes i will stop to smell the roses and realize im 15 - 20 miles into the backcountry where not many people have ever been, motorized or on foot.

For me it's an escape, it doesn't allow you to think about anything else but what's 30 feet in front of you. The anticipation of how I'm going to overcome the obstacles and terrain changes ahead of you. The adrenaline that comes along with that, and the sense of accomplishment once you've achieved it, then on to the next one and they just keep coming. Takes your mind off work, finances, relationships, etc. until you stop at a mountain vista overlooking the backcountry and all that surrounds you, then you get a feeling of how lucky you are to have this opportunity to take it all in and reflect. Being able to share that with my family, wife, kid, and friends is priceless. That's why it sucks when others try to shut us down, I want to have my kid and his kids experience all that I've been able to with this great sport.

The escape. When out riding there are no more problems. School is something that was in the past. Relationships? put on hold. Only thing I worry about when I'm in the backcountry is whats for lunch/dinner and getting back at the end of the day. Its a simple life!

As other have said, the escape is a big part of it for me.. Nothing matters when you are out riding, I don't think about everyday life or problems. Get to see sights that most only dream about & the whole time my wife is by my side.. I can't imagine life without it.. Josh

One post guys. Remember anything you put on the internet is there forever.
